How does a person ride that on the street with not too many tickets?

    It looks like fun!

Only been pulled over once. I was being dumb. They got another call while I was on the side of the road though and had to split! :clap

I seem to have the luck that if I even think about pulling the front wheel off the ground a cop will pass me. Not saying I don't but still........

Well, after repeated and now worse starting problems on my 530 EXC-R, I pulled the cover and found that I have the backwards Decompression Cam. :bluduh So.....$207 later, I have the 2009 cam on the way. Only thing still to discover is if my torque limiter is shot now. The bike will start if and only if it was just shut down seconds ago. Longer than that and it just spins.
My KTM dealer not only had no inkling about this problem but called the 2009 Cam (which his fiche shows as the replacement part number for the '08 bike) as an "upgrade" :rofl

OK, I'll go with that. Sadly, it's too late to browbeat the factory into a warrantee part.

PS: thanks go to Hodakaguy and others who know the bike well. I would never have figured it out on my own.

First time I've heard of this. I'm going to read up on that, although my bike starts fine. The only real issue I have with my bike is the fueling once it gets hot, it acts like it's flooding and then it will not start without having a huge hill to roll start it on, or you wait for it to cool off again. Frustrating.

Just bought a 530 to share the garage with my 640, have only done 400ks or so on it . Initial reaction is how good this thing is just putting around at low speeds, so light and such low centre of gravity compared to the 640. Plus the power is much more controllable and you can get more of it down.

I find it difficult to do highway on it, its not really vibes or scared of the extra maintenance just the windblast and you have to work at holding 100km/h. I am thinking of using it for some adventure type riding but cant see myself taking it on the big rides where it will be 300-400kms of commuting a day on tar or main dirt roads.

But more importantly when you sell your 640 are you going to sell me the rest of that motomaster setup?

My wonderful wife was nice enough to have santa bring me a kriega 5 dry pack for my 09 530 EXC.. Really want to mount it to the rear fender. The mounting hole are about 11/2' inches out from center. Is there anything I am going to hit if I punch a hole? Any other ideas on mounting?

My friend Weld86 ( www.weld86motoparts.com ) told me he might be interested in doing a similar skidplate in there were enough interested parties. We could use my '09 450EXC as a mule.

PM me if anyone has interest in such.
Probably need 10 parties to get it done.
    He's a welder/fabricator exqusite.

...well that's two interested so far.

Weld86 let me know (having to go to Vendors I expect), probably $195 each for 10 buyers, maybe $165 if we got twenty. That's a long shot I know.

Crawl under and have a look. There is really nothing going on down there, but if there is a plate holder and lights, I'd undo the 4 bolts/ screws and drop it and the wiring out of the way. Other than that, there is just the aluminum subframe which terminates at the forward bolts of the plate holder, but once you get the plate holder off, it is clear to see.

The wind blast will be easy enough to deal with but I take your thoughts on board.

Motomaster setup? wish I still had it. :cry

I was just about to ask about the orientation of the auto decamp. I went on a little maintenance kick. Adjusted the valves and checked the spark plug.
    Here is mine.

Here is the plug. What do you think, how does it look?

First time the valves have been checked. 55 hours 1636 miles on the clock.

    Exhaust: .127mm .127mm

    Intake: .076-.102mm .102mm

The left intake valve clearance measured in between .076 and .102mm feelers if that makes sense. Any thoughts on these clearances?

I also swapped out the oem spring. My dad got a stiffer spring for his 2013 250xcw and gave me his oem. So I went from a 72N/mm to a 69N/mm. I am a 135lbs naked.

My values for the rear shock are:

    Pre-load = 6mm
    Static sag = 46mm
    Rider sag = 109mm

What do you guys think about these values?

    Thanks ahead of time.
