Congrats there bro! And I'm sure no one has to tell you that you just made a great deal on a garage queen DR!
Jenn, Near you, The Crucible in Oakland has a 3 month (4 hours each Saturday) motorcycle maintenance class where enthusiastic noobs learn how to do useful wrenching by working on their bikes. Very hands on. Everybody helps everybody, and there is a pro there who demonstrates stuff and helps out when things get mysterious. Among other things, I learned how to adjust valve clearances, clean the carb, bleed the brakes, put in new brake lines, rebuild the master cylinder, align wheels, etc. - and believe me, I was one of the most clueless, ham fisted folks there... Lots of fun and very empowering. This semester's class may be starting shortly. Jim
Anyone have a Lynx fairing for a DR650 ? If so do you like it? Any pics? or do you know someone with one.
When I switched from a tubeless radial tire to the k270's the top speed went down quite a bit. I also suspect the mpg went down a lot also. Big soft knobs and soft sidewalls takes its toll I guess.
No worries-Thanks go to Marino aka macdesign who did this up for me and also had a flange made up in Brissy for me and sent up to Darwin, seeing as I was having a hard time getting anyone to make one up for me up here.
hi every body my son has a 06 dr 650 and the speedo is about 10 km/h out of wack does anyone know if we can calibrate or rec a suitable replacement thanks paul
Curious from who you purchased your Dyno Jet Jet kit from? I'm thinking something went wrong with the DJ install, or opening of air box or some other issue. My BST runs dead smooth ... no surging. On off throttle is perfect. NO BOG of any kind. Funny though, I bought a new BST carb from a guy who sent it with a "DJ KIT" installed. The needle he had was the wrong needle, bike ran like crap ... totally different from my original DJ needle in my original BST carb. So something may be screwed up here.
I just saw that bike listed today and thought "that is a good deal". I assume you have been watching the same four or so overpriced DRs on our local c-list? That one in Lebanon with 10,000 miles on it for $3,500 has been on there for ever.I feel like calling them and telling them to lower the price cause they are driveing the market up. I think you got the best deal I have seen on there in a long time. I payed $2,500 for my '99 about five years ago and it had 5k on it.
+1. A margin of error around 10% seems to be the norm. Both my Gold Wing and my DR indicate a speed that is slower than what I get when checking against the GPS. All of my riding cronies get a similar result on their bikes. I think the manufacturers do it intentionally so they cannot be liable for a rider exceeding the speed limit with a stock speedometer while thinking they are running at a legal rate.
Very Cool Mike. Hope your new DR650 is a good one! Was her husband in Jail? or on the lam? :eek1 You're a brave man to tackle an ATK 605! I've messed with a few of them ... all are trouble ... but once you figure everything out, good, strong running bike.
Hi, Here are some pics of my DR with one of Brittanias fairings http://picasaweb.google.com/GaryTWMW/DR650Rebuild03#
+1 I know that my BST is no pumper but with DJ kit & Air box mod & GSXR can, it runs well. I get good mileage and power is fine. Only time I wish I had a pumper is in the woods when it would be nice to be able to lift the front wheel at will.
Nice work, congratulations, although some here will fail to understand why you did it, I like it. Lots of quality shed time. Steve
I saw that ad and thought -'That bike has Mike's name all over it' so I resisted running over and buying it myself.
