Entry forms are out, and I'm in!! Should have a couple of new rides this year, including one for the road racing circuit! Seriously, this was the best thing I did on a bike last year, come along, you WILL have a good time! http://www.ma.org.au/index.php?id=12&tx_ttnews[tt_news]=11708&tx_ttnews[backPid]=6&cHash=82f0d4a8b7
You must have read my mind. I have been thinking about this for the last couple of days. Thanks for the heads up And I must agree it was the best thing i did on a bike in the past year also. Plan on running one of the XJ's again on the road circuit and who knows, if i can get the old XT250 up to scratch i may take it as well.
Hey Ray or Troy are your bikes scrutineered for the road circuit, thinking of slipping some trials tyres on the PE and giving it a run. I remember seeing posties run around last year Thanks,Dave
Last year there was a basic scrutineering before the first session. They checked things like brake lever operation and a visual condition check for leaks etc. My bike was on full NSW rego so maybe they did more with other bikes but i can't say for sure. I have noticed that the info on the website is a bit vague when it comes to bike entry info and criteria. So you may be able to answer one of my questions which is if I get my old XT going and decide to take it, does it have to have some sort of rego to enter it for the enduro or MX track.? eg. full, club or Rec reg. I know that it said somewhere that your bike needs to have either of them to ride around the site but i assume that doesn't count for bikes that are entered in events. Is that correct?
I have been to the last 3 bonanzas and worked for the organizing commitee the past two, anyone coming I will say g'day on the gate Friday if that's when you're arriving! :) NO REG is required to ride on ANY of the areas over the whole weekend, what you CANNOT do on your unregistered bike is use it to get around the bitumen transport main roads around the complex. However there is transit lanes (mostly dirt) marked all through the complex on the weekend and you may use any bike to get you around if you stick to the right areas. There is a separate Vinduro loop ride being offered on the Sunday that will involve some riding outside the complex, this is the only thing you'll need rego for if you choose to participate. Otherwise it's the best, biggest, multi discipline free for all catering to pre 90 bikes in the world!!! If you're not dead get there!! :) Cheers, Brendan
My missus is going to China. I'm going to Broadford!! Woo Hoo! But I haven't entered, yet. What's the point of a thread that doesn't have snaps! This one I got from KTJ Images. I bought this one from KTJ Images, plus a few more. Trokel trying to look inconspicuous. Another one I bought. So few photos of me riding. Spiffy! Okay, I've left that open for smart arse replies like "yeah, you're normally on the floor". Go your hardest, it's probably true. Note that, if you enter in the road bike section, you don't need leathers. Go on, make me regret that comment too.
Good Point This is about the only one I have of me on the track. And here is a few I took of some of the dirt track stuff on the Sunday while my XJ had a rest due to a slipping clutch.
Pretty Much. 83' XJ900R with 85' model forks as they handle better than the 83' model units which had antidive, an 85' model motor which is 891cc with bigger throat carbs instead of the original 853cc motor and carbs (which is still sitting on the shelf awaiting rebuild) and an XJR1200 tank as the XJ900 ones were prone to rusting out. So if you average that out it probably is an 84' now
Bit of a working bee on the Broadford bikes today,38 in the shed!:huh Three tyre changes worked up a fair old sweat! First, I want to have a crack at the short circuit,PE is fine as long as I put block tyres on, too easy,if a little hot All I have to do now is drop it about 4 '' with some short shocks and forks thru the triples, so it doesnt want to hi side all the time! Now this little gem is my old Scrapper, slow as a wet week, but a hoot to ride, you just hold it pinned and go mental on the gearshift! Once again, good to use on the road circuit as long as itr has road tyres Its also getting a disc brake on the front!, but its defining quality will be the exhaust! Custom 2 into one with monster pipes and a megaphone, shoukld sound awesome if nothing else Cant wait!
Now booked in. I'm taking 3 bikes, the two RDs and the XS11. I don't expect to put too many laps on the big old elephant. The 350 is entered in the 'race bike' group. Plan will be to get there early on Friday & camp close to the back fence of the road race pits, amongst the trees. If it goes the same as the last two years, there will be our group (Griffith Classic Club), some two stroke lovin' folk from Canberra close to the edge of the car park, a bloke (Russ) from Taswegia down the bottom of the hill with his MZ/Husky next to the bunch from Melbourne - I do hope that at least one of the two that had the domestic last year doesn't show up. Ce la vie.
I can confirm Russ will be there on his much improved MZ monster, There will a group of us tassie guys making it over for week end an looking forward to it.
Xt's ready for some redlining on the tar! Big exhaust! Disc brake conversion Red line checker fitted! Only worry is Harley front tyre!:eek1
Russ & the MZ of which we speak. Now that the VJMC Rally is done & dusted, I'm looking forward to this!! I re-assembled my 350LC a couple of weeks ago but, didn't add any water to it. I didn't plan to start it until after I came back from SA. Come last saturday I trundled into the garage & pored my distilled water into the radiator. Whilst it was filling I felt something cold on my feet - I was wearing my best Japanese Safety Boots at the time. Water was running out the exhaust!!! :eek1 Quickly drained what I'd added, then pulled the head off. It's a two stroke, it took about 5 minutes. Both of my new pistons and freshly bored barrels were tpped off with cool, clear water! I took the barrels, the head I was using and a spare head down to the machinists' this morning. I expect I'll get it back together by the end of the week. No leaks this time, maybe. I must've killed a Chinaman, or maybe it was this bike's previous owner? And Trokel has been spending (not very much) money on a bike that may be right for the dirt track too. Bastard! Turned up at my place yesterday arvo. Gloating!!!
Bump. How's your prep going? I've got the engine re-assembled in the 350. And the water didn't pour out this time. Another $200 to swarf. No, I haven't got it running yet. I discovered that I had run out of safety wire, so I'm not sticking the chambers on until I wire the sump. I discovered the joiner in the throttle cable on the 250 was broken, meaning my cable lengths were flexible. So I've bought some of the only stock of genuine throttle cable parts left (in the world?) to fix the broken bit and just so I have some genuine spares. You never know, the cable assembly on it is 41 years old, it may wear out soon! And I've just had the 1.1 out this morning. It will be good to wobble around on too. A mater from the central coast has an XJ900 ready. He's put race plates on it and got the 'Castrol 6 Hour' stickers from the organisers. It looks really period! Excellent. Only down side is that there is so many other things going on that I have to choose to miss out on. Can't do more than one thing at a time.
Just walked in from the shed, been fitting heavier springs to the PE for the short circuit, trying to put a spares package together for everything, my 2 stroke jerrys missing,no spare tubes and where's every thing else I need!? Oh well, itll be alright on the night as they say! I'll catch up with you some time down there Ray
The Eastern Block Racing Team will be at Broadford on Friday. We will camping at top of road racing track. Hoping for good weather that Friday. I taking the long way over Mt Hotham.
Thankfully it's not long now as I am just busting to get out the track especially with my most recent purchase. . Picked it up not quite 2 weeks ago and have been working on it after work pretty much every day since. It was set up for flat track racing but i have been changing it back to an enduro style setup. I also picked up an old XR recently so i might chuck it on the trailer as well if I have the room. Also I took the XJ out for a spin last weekend and it was running great so as I said before I CAN'T WAIT.
