EDIT: most rides done. WRT done Tuesday April 8th 2014.

    Hello Friends,

A small group of riders will be participating in an Epic Week of Riding in the Moab area. Since this is an unorganized event each rider will have to ensure that that their bikes are street legal/plated in their own States.

The first six pictures on this thread will be reserved for Winners of our Photography Contest in one of three categories: Friendship, Skill/Challenge and Humor.

Although the rides will not take place until April 2014, I am hoping ADV Members at large can post their favorite ride pictures here just to inspire us and to make sure we do not miss the Moab must do's.

    Thanks,
    Simba

    EDIT: April 9th 2014

Ned was the first one to send this picture below.
I don't think anybody would mind this being the 'Best Friendship Picture--WRT'. We had 14 Riders. Yes, 13 in the picture but later in the thread you will see why I say 14.
    Thanks,
    Simba

    Hello Friends,
Without a doubt StG is the best Rider Friend on any trail that you would want with you. Not only is he an excellent rider but he also sacrifices his own 'game' to make an assist.
    Imu

frequent occurrence in Moab where StG is picking somebody up--this time it was me.

Here StG has just picked up Buzzardair on Shafers.

This picture was taken by Buzzardair Paul.
It shows Steve, who is very afraid of heights, get out of his comfort zone and do something for himself, to prove to himself, that one day , he will kick this fear. I saw Steve on the ledge towards 'Chicken Corners'. He is one of the bravest guy I know.
He only needs to pick up his riding speed. :rofl
    Great Picture, Paul.
    Thanks,
    Imu

Stubborn Photographer refuses to move his car over until his photo shoot is done. It seemed the motoriders had to stay in position for about 10-15 Minutes.

I am all sad when I saw this sign. Look at me walking all dejected. I really wanted to see if my KLR could float a little.

My family and I rented a Jeep and went on a trail that one point we rode our car under a rock. It looked like there would barely be enough room to get through but actually there was plenty of room.

Anybody know where this was? I would love to ride my bike under this rock.

    EDIT: FOUND IT---Its Pucker Pass.
    Thanks,
    Simba

These two pictures are from Slick Rock Trail.
It look awfully interesting and fun.
    How technical is it really?
I need to up my DS game just a touch.

I'd love to ride this trail as well, but I'm not really sure I'm up for the challenge either:cry. It's been a couple years since I rode it on a mtb, but I seem to remember some turny climbs that go near some big drops...

Any opinion of which trails are more difficult on a moto - slickrock, fin n' things, hell's revenge, porc rim???

I personally think Fins N Things is a great intro to the variety of riding in the area. Sand, some good climbs, some slick rock. Just a fun mix.
Hells Revenge is the jeep trail that intersects SlickRock Trail a few places. I think Slickrock may be a touch harder, but in my opinion there are only a few places that really make you take notices or require some balance/climbing skill. The rock gives incredible traction. you can ride up stuff steeper than you would imagine, just have to trust in your bike to lug it.
I think Porcupine Rim has a couple harder sections, mainly when you are transferring over from Fins N Things if I remember right.

The Sovereign trail system north of town is another fun area to spend a day, great variety of singletrack out there.

Here are a few poorly taken phone photos from last year...

and this pic was from an awesome late night ride. Me and a buddy had some new helmet lights to test, so we headed out at 11pm in October to do a quick lap of Slickrock. That was a blast!

Feel free to ask or PM me any questions. I enjoy getting out there whenever I can. Hopefully this week if things work out!

Simba.....you'll never know about Moab's treasures until you give them a try.

Some of them are definitely suited for smaller bikes than you've got and possibly above your current experience level, but that's what brings you back to a place like Moab.
To improve and tackle more challenging stuff.

You'll probably return from your next trip wanting an XR250 :D

Slickrock is fun, a great warmup ride close to town.

Poison Spider Mesa/Gold Bar Rim/Golden Spike is more technical and I'd rather do it on a 525 than a KLR :lol3

Porcupine Rim is scenic, would be a workout in places on a KLR with noob-ish offroad skills

    the views are worth it

Kane Creek is a fun loop that's southern end contains the short technical bit, but is a very scenic ride.
Once past the southern end - work on your sand skills. :nod

Ha Ha, I would not attempt 90% of the things I saw in your pictures. You can't teach an old (and fat, in my case) dog new tricks! I have ridden Gemini Bridges, Chicken Corners, and Onion Creek several times and those are my speed. But I do want to up my game a little. The WRT was a great ride but I did go down once at Murphy's Hogback.

I will be riding a DR350SE and a TW200. I think 'Fin and Things' might be a ride I can try. At the first sign of major danger I will turn back with my old, fat tail between my legs.

I am very jealous of your pending trip I was just down there in September and I will be back soon. Well worth the 24 hour drive to get there.

I am unable to post pictures right now through tapatalk but I will later. Just reading this thread has me desperately wanting to plan another trip to Moab.

Be there April 6-April 10th with WRT Tuesday April 8th 2014.
The rides on BLM lands will be in small groups of 5-6 riders. We want to obey all rules and regulations of non-organized rides.
    Thanks
