Now that my garage is looking like Jay Leno's :loll, I have too many keys for the regular spring steel ring I use. Between office, home, cars, I have 8 keys plus the remote for my Civic. Oh, and my little Gerber knife. I don't put my moto key on there, I don't like a bunch of keys scratching up the top triple. I would like a ring that has a quick release for some keys, particularly the moto and BRZ, as there is not much space between my current ring of keys and the side of the dash in that car. Whatcha got?
I have moto keys on one ring Car keys on one ring house keys on one ring work keys on one ring only take what I need, I don't have a huge bunch of keys in my pocket being uncomfortable, wearing a hole in my trousers. If I loose a key, i have only lost one, not every thing I used to carry a knife - a three inch lock blade sailing knife for work and sailing - and that was on a separate bit of string As well, separate keys, less weight in the the lock and you will be less likely to damage the lock mechanism Hay Ewe
Multiple bike owner, in the garage I leave the keys in a hiding spot and grab the one I need for the pick of the day..... Makes it way easier
I use one of these. http://www.niteize.com/product/S-Biner-KeyRack.asp I like this one, too. http://www.niteize.com/product/S-Biner-KeyRing.asp
This is what I use: http://www.amazon.com/SE-Pull-Apart-Key-Ring-Pack/dp/B000O9KD5E/ref=pd_sim_sg_3 I picked up a few of those. House keys on one side, then car/bike keys on their own rings. Depending on what I'm going out in, I just grab the appropriate key ring, snap it to the house keys, and go. Or keep them separate if it makes it too long for you.
I just ordered these about 30 minutes ago! I have no idea if I will like them or not, but I have left the key in the bike more times that I like to admit. Hopefully I will remember to grab it when walking away with this. For the record, after 18 years of driving a car I have never locked the keys in the car. I don't know why I leave it in the bike all the time Five come in a package, so I figure I will let the kids have a couple to play with, and then I will hang on to the last one in case I like them.
I have a key ring on a nylon strap that carries the garage keys and the keys to the locks that chain the bikes to the floor. It also carries half of a detachable key ring. Each of the bike keys have one of the mating half attached. I just snap the key for the bike I'm going to ride on the ring and I'm ready to go.
Great until they break whilst on a ride and you lose your keys and you don't notice and you weren't really paying attention to exactly where you were on the ride because you were just wandering around on the two-tracks for half the day and then you have to break into your dad's cabin and then he gets mad as hell because you didn't bother to replace the window, instead deciding to just nail up a piece of plywood and go off to the bar instead unaware he was gonna show up the next morning. Then they suck ass. They are pretty handy up until that point, though.
I absolutely positively hate those. My wife uses those. The extra links make it less likely that the keys lay flat against each other in your pocket, making for an overall bulkier arrangement. But that's not the bad part. The bad part is that the retaining gate is fairly flimsy, and more than once it's left the key in the key hole as the key became unhooked from the biner with the gate bent out to the side. It happened to me twice where I lost the key and found it again. It happened to my wife a third time, after i warned her to be careful. Now the most frequently used key (house) doesn't sit on the biner at all. Generally speaking, I really like NiteIze hardware. But I think they missed the target on the key rack. ymmv, of course. I don't know if it fits the bill any better, but I use one main EK Triple Cat, which comes with one female clip-in end, and one male clip-in end. My keys attached to one of FOUR clip-in ends. I only use one male clip-in end for house keys. But I picked up a couple other clip-cats to pillage the female ends from them: so that my vehicle keys are all clipped into the female clip-in ends from those. At any point in time, I'm carrying my house keys, and the keys to up to 2 of my vehicles. I swap in those female ends as I'm leaving the house based on what I expect to be driving/riding: car/truck/bike/scooter The main male clip-in has: 3 house keys a swiss-tech micromax, a swiss-tech utili-key bicycle lock key shed key paradox entry system keyfob The other female clip-ins have anywhere between two-four keys + remotes depending on the vehicle and its accessories (bike/ski racks, tail bag cases, bike locks, etc) It works out quite well, and I don't have to carry *that* much in my pocket. It also keeps the amount of keys hanging off of your triple clamp to a minimum. Color coded ends help keep things straight... the bright orange ones tell me that I'm on two wheels today, whereas the matching blue one tells me I'm either in the truck or car. I'm a fan of the clip, btw, because I lose *everything* that isn't attached to my person. :)
