Do bear in mind that one of those guys has never ridden off road before. His first time was judging this bike. If you search their channel there is an earlier review with Simon Pavey's son.
Very true, but the noob, wasn't the one asking for more speed on the pavement. Here is the link if anyone else wants to watch that video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w9VhACv7nvE
Top speed is listed at 90mph on the ccm site. I'm guessing this is for the stock hp setting. The power upgrade should get you a higher top speed... I took my old XR650R up to 165km/h once on a forestry trail/road, wasn't something I would want(or need) to do on a regular basis. I think if I needed a bike that could do more than 90+mph I wouldn't be looking at a ccm GP450. This kind of bike will proabbly shine for a lightweight traveller on mainly off-highway or off-road routes who's probably averageing a speed of 50-70mph on the faster sections and still wants a relatively light bike to take on the off-road routes with.
i dont know sometimes hw they reach their conclusions ive owned a tenere for the last four years and hav done skandinavia and marroco on it twice .. 30.000 up on it so i know exctley how they compar e cm have had some feedback about vibration through the footpegs and are altering them ......i honestly dont feel any problem at all i rode the bike again this monday ...dont take any notice of the its all over at 50 rubbish ..the guy obviouslly rides a fireblade or somthing the ccm rides extramly well and pulls pleasingly well after the xt and xrs and klr ...the ccm is extreamly smooth for a thumper i wrote after the prototype that i wouldnt gearit down ...but the new mapping is much better ... anyway this is what i wrote ....i honestly think you guys that like the tracks and sand will absalutley love it heres what i wrote ....... went down today to finalize the order ...it looking like march dlivery for the first ones ... the ccm people are awainting confirmation of suppliers delivery times for the various parts ..before anouncing the doors open so to speak ...but the blanks on the website will be filled in when they feel they are properly ready for the roleout ... had a good ride on the bike again and managed to mess about off road too with some decent tyres on ..some washboard stuff and a little bit of up and down over some rough bankings .. im really happy with it ...the washboard stuff i even got into 4th gear and its really really bumpy wet skittish ...the suspension dammping and rebound is very very good ..i have done this on the xt and the klr as it rattles your teeth out.and wet lumpy cobbly rocks make for a uncertain front end feeling ..i am only happy to plod on this lane on the bigger bikes .i had no trouble going twice as fast over this surface and im not even used to the bike ... i must have been over 35 mph as the bike was just pulling 4th gear for a short time too ...i would never get out of 2nd on the klr or xt ..... i chose this lane as i know it and can compare had around 20 mins just dicking about going up and over a eath embankment not massivly steep but typical trail stuff you encounter .you can make a little rock step out of it and make it harder or easier depending on where you start ... i could play in the same place on the bigger bikes but the difference is id have to have little run up and keep momentum to get the big girl up ..and have to be ready at the bottom going down as theres a narrow path and a dry stone wall after messing about for a bit i was purposly riding too slowly and getting a feel of the bike ...it will pull from tickover you can do a feet up u turn on tickover with little need to slip the cutch and still drag the rear brake its extreamly easy to balence ...i kept going slower and slower until i was able to literally ride the bike up the slopes which are reasonably steep and slippy at a slow walk ..and just do it by touching the throttle here and there ... its low speed managability lugability ..picking through rocks and stuff is as good as cheating ...very very good i was able to ride roads i know and have some fun ..the fuel map on this bike was better than the earlier one it was smoother in town and 4 gear pulled clear from the low 30s and 5th from 40 its eager to pull and open the taps its as quick if not quiker than a xt and will kill one dead in 5th gear from 40mph ..i honestly dont think a xt would pull 4th as quick from 40mph ...make no mistake in thumper terms she is not lacking in zip with 75 80 coming up in pleasing purposful surge sitting at 74 mph dont ask me why 74 felt prettymuch vibe free and the bike certaily didnt feel over stressed ..it wafts along no trouble ...extreamy stable cornering is ...completley neutral and so easy ..the weight i guess ..gearspacings are good no lag just picks up and runs immediatly even with shorter shifting ...people who say they want a wider ratio box may want to take a step back .. for a comprimise its great ...and just settle for a overdrive 6th i aggree that would be perfect
To put it in perspective, if this was a 7.5-8k motorcycle its deficiencies would be OK but at its current asking price of my understanding, over 12k USD, its street performance is pretty bad, almost laughable.
I own a 660 Tenere so I didn't agree with MCN's take on it, yes it's heavy but with suspension work it is great off-road IMO. I'm 6'2 and 110+kg so it suits my size. In 30 years time they will still be around travelling the world. Sorry, I digress. This interview about the CCM 450 with Simon Pavey's son is much better than the earlier MCN take on the CCM. It sounds like it's going to be a really good bike straight out of the box. Very light for an Adventure bike with great suspension and it looks great IMO. 50hp would be nice though. I hope they come to Oz, I can't wait to ride one!
The most accurate quote I've heard is $12,000CDN, and I think that might inlcude gst. So if the US got this bike I bet it would be a lot closer to $10,000USD... basically the price of a new ktm exc, except you get a 17L tank, 5spd wide ratio transmission, high mounted air filter, and a rally fairing.
Have you ridden it? Oh, I just looked back a few pages You're the same wet blanket naysayer from before Why not just ignore the thread? Don't ride one, don't buy one .Ok, but why only add negative banter. We get it. You don't like it Must be too "good" for a bike like this Minky has ridden it and has positive things to say. I am really looking forward to giving it a whirl. FWIW, I had a BMW 450 and liked the motor. With all of the suspension, brakes and upgraded parts this bike looks really cool
You are right--it's not... A tad over $12K USD: Source: http://www.motorcycledaily.com/2013/07/ccm-gp-450-adventure-so-you-say-you-want-a-light-bike/ I'd love to have it but at this price point common sense must prevail.
The interesting question is, can the CCM even get up to a fast enough speed to warrant the expensive brakes? Let alone accelerate to that speed in a reasonable time. Someone in design must have been a bit drunk to choose that component.
Well kawasaki did manage to create a motorbike that had more HP at less than half the cost so, maybe CCM should ask the kawasaki engineers for advice.
Did CCM defile your mother or something? You seem to be very adamant on pushing your view down everyone's throat.
A quick search reveals the 300 has less than 40 hp and can only be ridden on the street. The CCM on the other hand has 50 hp normaly 40 hp detuned can be ridden anywhere and can pack luggage. I guess you get what you pay for!!!
Here's my problem. The company is selling an asian motorcycle at a premium(really beyond premium) price using an outdated engine and passing it off as top of the line British made "dakar" performance motorcycle. It's frankly a joke. This alone isn't something I care much about but I see the potential for a subset of uninformed buyers to gobble it up which ends up legitimizing the outrageous prices on motorbikes as they currently are. My posts are purely interested in putting it in an appropriate light, since most of the posts seem to be written by people with beer goggles on, or those who already bought one. Is it bad? No. Is it worth 12-13k USD? Absolutely not.
I would have agree, 13k no way. Its a street legal Enduro bike. For 13k you can get a lot more bike than the CCM.. Don't get me wrong, I would love the bike if it was uncorked and at a reasonable price. I haven't seen anything on the bike at screams out 13k worth.
