Looks like it was recently uncrated or restored. Lucky guy. If anybody wants a Wiseco 11:1, I'm pretty sure I can part with one, just pay shipping. Rings are $30 bucks on 'zilla. Good to know that my bike won't melt pistons riding in sand So I'm thinking..... I got a bunk cylinder with a good sleeve and a fresh hone. Can/should I have my machinist swap the sleeve into my good cylinder? I'm a little disapointed and happy at the same time. I wanted to hop the bike up a little bit, but it already is I knew the damn thing was faster than it shoulda been.
Thanks. I try to keep it as clean and functional as I can. I purchased it in September 2013, I am the third owner. It was originally bought in Roswell NM and that guy had it for 20 years and it literally sat in a barn on a ranch. The second owner was a friend of the first and he bairley rode it either. When I purchased it it only had 1800 miles now 9 months later it has more than 3000 miles. I believe the milage is correct considering its condition. Hello i experience ignition misses sometimes on my XL 600 LM from 1986. i figured this is the reason why it dies on me sometimes while ideling, it just stops fireing for a rev and dies. sometimes when i hold open the throttle a little bit and idle at about 2-2.3k, i also experience ignition misses, but the mass of the engine is enough to keep it running. could this be the strator? i also checked my spark and its rather weak. thanks for help, heres a picture of mine and a few friends bikes.
Trucking along on this PITA rebuild. New jets (from 6sigma) installed today- was hoping she would be easier to kick over... kick kick kick kick kick kick kick kick.... NOTHING. We check the spark against the frame- and it is inconsistent- sometimes it sparks sometimes, most of the time, it doesn't. We went through and checked the different electric parts for proper outputs etc. Brand new Ricky stator, brand new spark plug, spark plug boot, ignition coil. Went to check out put from Pulse generator and it seemed fine. Took a break. A friend suggested checking pulse generator while turning the engine- so we went back to do that and couldn't get any reading at all from the PG... I'm trying to find a PG for my 86' xl600r with no luck- do you think I would be ok running one from an 89 xr600r? Also just want to double check that the PG is my issue. Thank you!
Torminator, Please describe in as much detail as you can, with pictures if you can, your front brake line on the 1983 XL600R. Most of us are running 31 year old rubber hose and your helping us duplicate what you have could potentially save someone's life. This is my second request for this. Thanks, GSBruce
+1 I need information, I rely on my machine. Nobody wants a useable used Wiseco 101MM 11:1 piston? I'm gonna chuck it in the trash if no one takes it.
Whoa. I bought one last year, and it was still available from Honda. Now it's not... hope mine doesn't go any time soon...
Hi Bruce, I haven't done anything with the brake line but I can take a picture of it and post it if it helps. Guess mine is 31 years old also. The real issue with the R is that it is leaking oil so I need to change the cylinder and gaskets. The cylinder had a problem with worn threads and someone had fixed it with helicoils so I have to pull out the engine again and fix the issues. The throttle is also very hard, I have tried to lube it but it doesn't help. Any tip?
Nica bike! Check the power that comes from the stator before you change it. Should be around 14V coming out of it. I have changed mine to a Ricky stator and it runs well with that. Did you pull out the engine? I was pulling out mine and had the same issue, going nice on idle but misfiring when throttled. It turned out that it was one tooth wrong on the camchain.
Thanks, Torminator. I don't think at all that that is OEM front brake line on your '83; surely that is not original. Are you the original owner? At any rate, I would appreciate all the photos of your front brake line, from one end to the other, that you can stand to take. I don't know much about throttles; mine works like it always has. I'm sure some of the other guys know something about this. Do you think it is the throttle or the throttle cables that are binding? RFVC600R is probably your man for questions regarding helicoils .....
Make sure the PUSH cable has some slack in it. If it is to tight the throttle will be very hard to turn. Also check the cable routing inside the throttle assy. This is done with the throttle assy of of the bike and cabled disconnected from the carbs. There is a plastic guide in there and some people find it very difficult to assemble correctly.
