For about an extra C-note you can get a S&W 625PC, and for less than that you can score a 625JM. The PC gun is nicer, has a few extra features like a better trigger, chamfered chambers, and a couple of others. It's a much more practical gun and the darling of IPSC/IDPA revolver competitors. The 22 is cool if you're into the old school vibe, but for some reason it just freaks me out a little to see the internal lock/zit on an old-school looking gun, it's just wrong, whereas on a more modern styled revolver it doesn't bother me nearly as much. Here's a pic of the PC. Most guys don't like the colorful grips, but I find them very comfortable.

A simple letter to the ATF saying where you're going is all that's need, or slap a "legal" upper on it and have no worries. It's legal to do so in TN. Don't know about CO. Why a trust? Your sheriff unfriendly? True.
I went in to pick up some subsonic .22 for the wifes pre-woodsman....it does not like the soft lead on the winchester.....and came out with this. Now the only thing left on my short list is a REAL 1911, and a High-power. Had a lead on a lend-lease 1911, but it slipped past my fingers....the hunt is part of the fun.
> "I went in to pick up some subsonic .22 for the wifes pre-woodsman....it does not like the soft lead on the winchester.....and came out with this." You came out with a stuffed BEAR ?
I agree with you on the zit. First couple times I walked by the case (it's been there a while), I though the Mod. 22 was a vintage gun. The lock gave it away though... I suppose if I wanted a .45, I might as well buy a 1911 like everybody else.
Totally. Unless you want a revolver as opposed to a semi-auto. The 625s are great guns, but so are 1911s. Get one of each!!
I really enjoy shooting my 357, but I do like the fast precision of my single-action 22 auto as well. It's a conundrum...
Personally I'm a FAL guy myself. Been wanting an uberti yellowboy myself and a matching Beretta laramie lately. Heres some kits and builds if I can get the phone to cooperate.
IIRC, you have a Ruger GP 100? If so, and you don't have a center-fire semi-auto, maybe the 1911 would be a better choice to begin the process of rounding out your arsenal.....
Anyone have a book that can date early S&W revolvers? I have an old model 10 38 special that has a serial # of 930012. It was carried by my great-uncle as a small town police officier at least 40 years ago. Thanks in advance, D
I was just wondering about gun selection at local retailers. Saw a picture (Gun Trader) of what I assume was a local gun shop in the country and it seemed a lot different than the local shops here in Fort Lauderdale. The picture of their shop showed mostly rifles (wood stocks) but here we have counters full of plastic pistols and walls of AR / AK's. Not a fan of tacticool weapons as I don't see the need for them. I prefer more classic rifles and revolvers. They all do the same thing after all. What do you see locally?
We have two gun stores in an area of about 200k population. One has ONE "tactical" type rifle and the other has two. Both shops have a decent selection of new and used rifles, maybe 70% wood. Both have a selection of most of the new metal and plastic handguns as well as some old stuff. Thirty miles South or sixty miles North, things change alittle. Take note that I'm in coastal California.. If you go 100 miles inland, things change alot.
