i've only ever seen two of them in the wild. one black and the other silver. the silver one is owned by a guy that uses it on the job. he works for a road surfacing company and has it rigged up with a framework that drops a measuring wheel down to road surface level so they can accurately measure distances for submitting bids for road work. i didn't get the mileage figure from him, but he said he had a bunch of miles on it and has never had a problem. the black one is owned by a black guy here in town. he wears black leather gear along with a black helmet. the couple of times i've seen him my first thought is "holy shit, darth vader is on the loose."
200% COOL. I love it. Wonder what Nicola would make of it. I can just imagine cruising along a beach boulevard with it one day, and the next day touring long distance. Great purchase.
At that point you could decide on a power up-grade: <object height="385" width="640"></object><object height="385" width="640"> <embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/N_EOI3Ej-yI?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" height="385" width="640"></object>
Looks a little like this Morph is used as a platform for all kinds of custom work. A lot of it's not my bag but some serious effort's gone into in all the same. This Morph's painter apparently doesn't like masks much. He'll have a heart as big as a dumpster before he knows what happened. More power though... that's never unpopular. Interesting swap. <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/k0Z4aVHR55M?fs=1&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/k0Z4aVHR55M?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>
Howdy, Congratulations on the new Morphous, Legion! One reads nothing but great things about this unappreciated scoot. I think the Morphous is cool and stylish. Had a used one been available locally, I might've gotten it instead of my Sh150i. Keep us posted on your new bike. Thanks for the pics, too.
Yea I love nacree's upgrade with the Majesty 400 engine swap! I bet that things a dream to ride! BUT I don't know about hair pin corner handling due to the length of it, but I bet it cruises real nice! Probably is fun in the twisties though, but not as much as a shorter bike. It does share a basis design with the Helix I think, but it really is a different animal. Does anyone now how fast they top out at stock?
Top speed is not a problem. I own an 06 Morphous. Top speed is slightly higher than the two other 250cc scooters I own ( Both Honda Helix) On the Morphous I cruse comfortably at 65-70mph indicated which is just slightly optimistic. Top speed is restricted at 80mph.. which i've hit once. There are some steep long hills around here as well as some nasty wind and the morphous never dips below 65mph on the HW. It's super stable on the highway. Tracks like it's on rails. More so than almost any two wheeled machine (including motorcycles) Ive owned. I like it better on the HW than my Honda silver wing, (sold). It also goes about it's business in a very smooth way. It's so good on the highway that you have to wonder why Yamaha didn't put a larger engine in it which would make it phenomenal on the highway, which brings me to the following point. Around town, the morphous is fun and lite enough to not be bothersome but if you live in a mountainous area you WILL notice that it's a heavy large scooter with a small engine.. Acceleration is slower than my other 250cc scoots and it takes it's sweet old time climbing steep long hills. The engine is a little gem but it's pushing a large heavy scooter. Still a really fun scooter. Makes a great relaxed commuter. My Helix's are lighter and peppier which makes them great in the city... But the morphous is on a different level once you leave the red lights behind. It's a very modern feeling machine. The Helix's are scary, by comparison, at 65mph. I've had the morphous for sale for many months at a great price..($2500 5500 miles , sorry) but it's so rare that I don't think people know what it is. It's a great bike but I have my sights set on something else these days.
Packed and ready to roll. Summer of 2012 going to Amerivespa in Lake Geneva, WI. from Topeka, Ks. Camp Morphous. The Morphous has a very limited amount of storage. A topcase would have been nice but I'm not sure I want to alter the bike to mount a case. My red gear bag was securely attached, and made an excellent back support. The bag didn't effect the handling but looked alittle dorky. And if you needed to get under the seat, it was a chore to remove the red bag. The trip was a sucess. Bike rode flawlessly. Power wasn't an issue as I was riding with a few slower scoots. My scoot tops out close to 80 mph, but the high speeds really drops the mpg. At a steady 55-60 mph range I have got 65-68 mpg. While I was sucessful riding the Morphous, I am really thinking hard about getting a touring motocycle. Something with saddle bags, taller passenger back rest? I would be interested in hearing about other riders trips on a Morphous and how they packed everything on it.
I've read nothing but great things about the Morphous. I've wanted one for years. They're supposed to be well engineered, modern scoots. Let me know about clearance with respect to going up curbs/ ramps when entering parking lots. I ask this question because here in my adopted home state of Louisiana, we have semi-curbs (!) when we leave a roadway and enter a parking lot! One feels a significant "bump" in any vehicle, nevermind a scooter. Now in Texas, there's a smooth ramp for entering a parking lot, but not Louisiana, LOL. I expect a proper review on this killer scoot!
This type of curb? This type of curb is also used as approach to drive. He is a picture entering the drive and at the narrowest clearance. The center stand would drag the ground first before anything else. View from opposite side. I have never bottomed it out, yet! The rear tire is a lower profile from OME, I needed a tire and that's what was available, when I replace tires again, I will put OME size back on the rear. (It looks alittle low, will check next ride, just rolled it out for these pictures) In the second picture above you can see I've added a back support extension I found on ebay, custome made for the Morphous. Compare to stock picture below. I'm 5'7" if someone with longer legs rode with the taller back support , it would probably feel too cramped as it does push you forward a bit. It works great for me!
OSWarrants, Thanks for posting. My only concern with the ultra-cool Morhpous would be bottoming out on these dreadful roads and semi-curbs here in Louisiana. I appreciate you taking the time and effort to post the pics, btw. I'm afraid our driveway ramps are more like semi-curbs! There's a noticeable "bump" no matter what one drives! PS: The Morphous remains the coolest, hippest bike I've ever seen.
Have had mine for a couple of years, just want something bigger for long trips. But really like the Morphous. Hard to find aftermarket accessories. Looking at a Silverwing.
Saw one in a used mega-dealer a year ago...1500 miles and pristine. Radiated quality, like anything Yamaha. I don't quite fit; but damn, I was tempted. But the chance is long gone...anyway, I'm happy with my Burgman 650.
I have joined those who have been "Morphed". All the good things on previous pages are true. Bike fits me to a "T". 2006 with a little over 5700 miles. Well kept with only a minor amount of garage rash. New tires to replace the nine year old originals are on the way along with warmer spring weather. Time to ride!.
I don't think we have decided yet. Someone mentioned Chicora Alley in Mauldin but I an not sure if anyone has decided yet. It will be on the 18th.
