It's been three years since I've last visited your beautiful country. I SLO. Julian Alps are amazing. Recognized Jezersko immediately. Can't wait to return. Thanks for the report.
All of this also applies to your great country. Reading all the excellent reports from the U.S. I have a great desire to drive at least once a part of your beauty. All-day ride to prairie would probably be a real revelation for me.
Valika planina, Mhor Vein, same thing but in Scots Gaelic- its my daughters name beautiful country mate.
Well.. Looks like Europe beats us in the scenery department for sure. I would say that most of the pictures you posted so far, are basically postcard worthy.
I'm sure that Mhor Vein sounds nice in gaelic, but believe me that Velika Planina doesn't sound very gently in Slovenian, which is not exactly sounding language Good to have you along
And your English is better than mine. I messed up you're and your If you're ever Stateside you have a place to stay.
Is that offer good for anyone else? Thanks for sharing, will see if I can make it to that area of the Alps. Jim
Thanks for your kindly offer enduroO125. I have big need to post some summer pics from this years travels. It's equally for me as for you. I already miss warm days and we haven't got to the winter yet. Island of Rab, Adriatic sea. Been there in june with my family. One big family car (for european standards at least) and father on motorcycle behind. Two alpine lakes Bohinj lake and Laghi di Fusine in the Italian side. First all-day ride with my son in early summer - we took longer shortcut And first seaside visit in march. Izola/Isola. This pic is from the Corsica island. We've been there three times, but never with motorcycle. That's pity cos i have some really ass-kicking photos from there. Maybe next travel there..
I had the extreme pleasure of spending two tours of duty at Aviano AB (about 75km north of Venezia). You ARE a lucky bastard Of all the places that I've been, the Friuli / Veneto / Alto Adige has got to be the most beautiful area on earth. LOVE the Dolomites. If you haven't been there, GO. And Darel, looking at your pictures, you've given me a whole list of new places to visit.
Hi MichaelJ Dolomites are on schedule each year. But still I was not there yet.. Next year for sure. If I remember correctly Aviano is responsible for Slovenian air defense?
It is now, but it had a different mission 40 years ago. I miss my '75 Ducati 350 Desmo monoposto LOVED that bike. I paid $1,200 for it new from Fratelli Demarchi in Conegliano. They're still there as a bicycle shop, but no longer selling Ducatis. I'd ride up to Cortina and over the Falzarego and Pordoi passes and never see another motorcycle. Times have changed.
That pics before were nice memories, this is a current reality. Low clouds, cold and wet tracks. Huts on the mountains are abandoned till spring. Only the lonely wanderer is still buzzing around there
MchaelJ: I found data about your bike. 103MPH on that tyres???:eek1 Had to be helluva of experience driving that bike.
They have the wrong picture. The 1968 MkIII looked like this: But yes, it was an absolute ball riding it in the Alps. There's a lot to be said for a bike that you can actually ride to its limits. As a friend said, "It's more fun to ride a slow bike fast than a fast bike slow."
That is it. Final ride this year. Man has to know his limits. I'm not hardcore winter-Sibiria rider like some others here on ADV. Hope next year will be equally or better. Last try Now you know why.........
What do you do when in the lowlands is like this? And you know that up there is totaly different world. Go there... of course I even took my motorcycle along..look at the pic.. The pictures speak for themselves Breakfast for champions Some mountain fauna and...
Magnificent photos capturing the majesty of the mountains. The North American continent may be a different, colder story, but everywhere I have been, winter is just part of the continuum of riding experience. As student in New Zealand's South Island we used to take the odd day or weekend off study and ride up the mountains to go skiing.
I'm not very keen of riding on icy roads. So bike will have to wait until spring unfortunately. I accidentaly found very apropriate song for this time of year. Very moody and as I discover later this is just one of many versions of one really old song from our southern brothers. Although many of you wont understand a word, melody itself I think is worth of listening. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=orOv1DUP8Ic&feature=youtube_gdata_player
I actually saw few motos there and a lot of scooters. There is chilly at the mornings but still 14-15°C (57-59F) at the noon. I'm trying not to be jealous really trying.... Anyways.. it's just one hour away Lucija Portoro Piran Even our little dog is having a lot of fun In short a very beautiful and warm day. Batteries recharged...
