Name is Ben and I just moved here from Nevada. I live near Carthage, and ride a 1996 KLR650. Looking for good people to ride with that can kinda show me around, camp, hunt, fish. Thanks, and look forward to hitting the trail soon.

Thanks to grneggz for a very pleasant start to my TX experience. The route was incredible I can't imagine how that could have been put together. I had a good time. New riding buddies a dirt route new country and it wasn't cold!! (remember I'm from Idaho) Question is "what's next?" BTW I failed to have a camera on the ride- if I could get a pic or two I'd appriciate it.

Looking forward to the next ride.

Glad you went..... I have a new route for next weekend. If the weather is good and you are ready to ride, we'll make it happen.

I am looking to find actual offroading around San Antonio, I will be down at SAMMC/Brooke Army Medical for a little over a month and want to have a couple of excursions. I have a highly modified F800GS. I am willing to scoot out about 100miles but not much further.

Texas has a dearth of public land. And nothing public remotely trail-like near SA.

How can I go about finding particular stretches, I was stationed at Hood before and would just drive around and find stuff but I figure that isn't a good idea anymore because I am pretty sure I was trespassing.

I know a lot of the dirt roads west of I35. Nothing I'd consider technical or trail like (unless the James River Crossing is considered "technical"). I know most of them near Ft. Hood. Just fun...... and pretty country to ride through. Too easy for ya? Speed up. Things can get pretty damn interesting at 100. lol

I use Roads of Texas and the TXDOT online county road grids. Then I'm only wrong half the time. :D

Thanks for the advice, it would be great to get to Hood and ride out by the ranges. It is really neat out there and if the ranges are clear you can pretty much go any where except for impact zones etc...

Would be great to get someone from the local area so I can hit some of the good stuff. I will most likely be back at Hood in 2 yrs so will have to link up sometime.

Zar's Ranch if you can convince someone to let you on the property with that beast of a bike. Might be a tough sell to a bunch of 450s.

This looks phenomenal actually, thanks for the idea! The bike is probably less damaging than most 450s because of its size but it is a tank. I have been slowly but surely making it into a rather large enduro.

Thinking about a winter ride from Kansas to Corpus Christi. Of course would like to visit the beach, but wondering if there are any good places to ride in the area? Trails, interesting back roads, scenery.... Doesn't even have to be Corpus Christi.. any coastal areas with cool riding nearby. Any help would be appreciated.
