Does anyone know the current conditions of OR 224/46 between Estacada and Detroit? We're heading that way (well... sort of) during spring break and I'm considering riding to meet the family down there... but the Forest Service's online road conditions state it's closed, although the update was from the middle of December... I'm guessing it's still too early to take that route but figured I'd check to see if anyone knew otherwise (meaning I'm hoping it's open cause I've been itching to ride that for months)

    Thanks

Unless you need the info today, try calling the FS office in Estacada. I have found them helpful in finding out current conditions.

...and won't be the last! :lol3

Forget that road until later. Ride the alley sweeper instead! :freaky

Good idea, then you won't have to worry about shoveling snow, just old ladies swinging shovels.

Rode it last Sunday for a stretch. Made it to just north of Breitenbush before the snow/slush/ice made my bike tired and nap. :lol3

The snow was super wet and slushy. I was riding in some trucks tire tracks. Patches of asphalt were visible. Maybe a smaller bike or more aggressive tyres would have been easier. I was with a friend on a v-strom and he decided he was done, so we turned tail and rode back to Estacada for beer. :freaky

On a side note, there are some small rockfalls and at least one large boulder that is partially blocking the northbound lane after the turnoff for Bagby.

Yeah, I was almost surprised there was any snow at all. The road was clear and dry up to the last 1/4 mile.
