That looks really good, I love the Tanami sticker and the bike as a whole looks very professional and like it came from the factory.
OUTSTANDING! Just looking at it, I am sure that will be a total hoot to ride. I'm kind of jealous, but you deserve to enjoy it after all the hard work you put into it.
G'day Thanks again guys, much appreciated. Welcome Blulu. Yes I think I will just use a second joining link. I'm going to cut the exhaust where it starts to bend up from under the engine and then have it exit near the tail light. Cheers. 3legs
Niiice work 3legs, very nice indeed. Looking forward to the completion, and yeah some vidyo on YouChoob would be sweet.
Cheers guys. It's been too hot here to do any work (around 40 yesterday and 44 today) and it's going to be around 40 again tomorrow so not a lot will done. I've never done a youtube video before so I will give it a go when it's finished but don't expect perfection Later 3legs
G'day 3 legs, only found this thread today. Great build up and looking forward to seeing the finished product. Brings back memories of my brothers 550 Suzi back in the seventies. He had a 3 into one pipe and that bike was quite quick. I would be very interested to see how it all unfolds and what you think after your first test ride. Great work on a tight budget. You mentioned you bought a sand blasting cabinet. How much and where from. I've got a few old dirt bikes I'm thinking of getting stuck into and can see the benefit of having one in the shed. I'll be following this thread, very interesting. Cheers Andy
G'day Thanks Dave. I knew I could count on you for a smart arse comment Hi Andy. I bought the sandblasting cabinet from supercheap auto a couple of years ago. I can't remember the price but it wasn't expensive. It's certainly paid for itself. I have fond memories of an old mate lending me his GT550 for a week just before I joined the Army back in 77 and I loved it. Smooth, plenty of power for it's day (and size) and felt bulletproof. Anyway I bought a secondhand muffler today so I just need to cut the 3-1 and get a new joining pipe bent and she will be ready for startup. Too hot at the moment so will wait until next weekend. Hey Andy I note where you live. I hope the fires haven't affected you. 3legs
All good out this direction. I did 10 years service in the CFS and I really feel for the guys out there fighting the fire. Would be incredibly difficult with all the wind changes and the enormous size of the fire. Hopefully some cool weather will help.
No, not going with 3 chambers. I want to keep the Tenere look and it would look to bulky. If I could get the 3 pipes into one and go through the frame like a normal Tenere I would but unfortunately the right hand carby and filter gets in the way. I'm still in 2 minds about whether to put a sump guard on to hide the exhaust. Will see when I've finished the exhaust. 3legs
Nice build. In the UK a company called Piper used to sell 3:1 exhausts for Suzuki triples. Not ideal for a 2 stroke. Apparently gave great midrange but would not rev.
I think the 3-1 pipe i've just cut in half is an old Piper or Bromlech (or something with a similar name). It actually tucks away nicely under the engine. Should work alright. I'm not too worried about any loss of power. I do prefer mid range power to top end anyway. Later 3legs
