Riding Colorado in Sept. Gunnison, Kremmling, Vale, etc. On and offroad and would appreciate help with a map suggestion for my 60csx.
I use City Navigator, Topo 100k, and sometimes Topo 24k for planning trips in this general area. I also use Benchmark paper map books as a backup and to get a big picture. If you are going trail riding, you can pick up some excellent paper trail maps locally.
Get the Butler(tear proof, waterproof paper)map of CO to help with planning and to carry as a tankbag map. There is a new version out this year. http://www.butlermaps.com/Motorcycle-Road-Maps/1/Colorado-Map JR356
I uploaded the free topo map of Colorado into my Zumo 665, but it cluttered the screen and I didn't find it useful since I was staying on jeep trails that are well-covered in the North America Navigator maps. And as mentioned above, the regional paper maps can hardly be beat. Fred
I have two GPS on my bikes, and I still prefer using the Butler maps. The electronics are great for navigating on the fly, but for me, nothing beats a paper map for larger scale strategy and planning.
This is a great book with everything in Colorado on and off pavement. The rides tend to be short (max maybe 50 miles but you can stitch them together) and no gps routes but he's researched the book by years of exploration. Have used it for two years. Available on Amazon, google it as..... The Complete Guide to Motorcycling Colorado: The Definitive Reference for ALL the Best Roads, Rides, and Tips [Paperback] by Steve Farson.
This thread has gone dormant, but in case it awakens ... Colorado's GTR Mapping produces very good and inexpensive paper topographic recreation\travel maps. They are quite detailed, but not durable. Best to order online.
