I'm saving that forever. What a facinating video!

132 MPH on what is by today's standards a bicycle! Can you imagine the brakes then??? And the RUBBER tires!!!

God, to have been a fly on the wall that day!

Thanks very much for posting this valuable piece of motorcycle history.

    Thrilling!

Great video, thanks for the link! My great uncle ran some board track races on Indians. The tracks got a bad name after a terrible accident in 1912 where two racers and 5 spectators were killed. It would come to be known as "the day the board tracks died." Most tracks under 1 mile in length soon went away, although some of the larger tracks (over 1 mile) operated for many more years. It is inconceiveable to think of the dangers the riders faced racing on that surface, and the speeds were unbelieveable.

Brakes? What brakes? They were lucky if they had something that resembled a clutch.

I think rain wouldn't have changed much for them. Afterall most of those motors were still constant loss. Meaning the oil just leaked out if them! :eek1

As the boards wore, they would splinter, splinters would hit bone then mushroom :eek1 . I worked with a guy who raced on some of the last tracks. They had cars going 150 m.p.h. in the '20's on 3" tires, they didn't hit 150 at Indy until 1963. There was a 1.25 mile track in Miami, with 50 degree banking in the turns, had to go at least 110 m.p.h. or slide off the bank.
