Brian, If our friends over at Klim would happen to announce a replacement/upgrade for the Badlands Pro, what time of the year would this happen? After January 1? Thanks.
Hi Brian, so, few questions. I left the idea of buying Klim parkas and decided to purchase a rain jacket that would go over mymotorcycle jacket. I'm torn between Klim Stow Away and Klim Traverse jacket. Which one would you recommend? And one practical question: I know that Stow Away packs in the small pouch, but how little can you fold Traverse jacket? Could you fit it in a tank bag? And questions about the gloves and sizes. Iam looking for totally waterproof gloves which are warm enough that I could ride in temperatures between 4° and say 15° C. And I want excellent protection. I am looking into Klim Element and Rukka Imatra. What do you think aboute them? And what about sizes? My circumference is 21 cm. For exp., Held Air`n`dry fits me perfect in size 9.
Yeah, after Jan. 1 would be my best guess. We typically see brands launch new collections in the spring and fall. -HVB
The Stow Away is so light and so thin, I wouldn't recommend using it over top of your motorcycle jacket. I don't think it would last very long. My co-workers, CK and Hao, own the Stow Away and they agree with me. The Traverse is the better choice, IMO. I can fit the Traverse (Large) into my Icon Primer Tank Bag. My top glove recommendations: REV'IT! Alaska GTX Gloves - size Medium Held Cold Champ Gore-Tex Gloves - size 9 Klim Element Long Gloves - size Medium The Rukka Imatra Gore-Tex Gloves are very nice cool weather options, but as you get closer to 4ºC I trust Thermolite and Thinsulate over Outlast. I have a few pieces of gear that contain Outlast and it's not the best insulator in cold temps, IMO. Outlast does a great job regulating body heat in mild / cool temperatures. -HVB
Brian, thanks for answer. So, it will be Traverse. I want rain gear with GTX, I like that is breathable. I had some unpleasant experiences with old rain gear. Steam bath and all. Well, anyway, If Traverse fits in your Icon tank bag, I think it will fit in my much larger tank bag. About gloves.. I watched the reviews of gloves that you have listed above. Again. All seem like great gloves. Which means that once again I have a problem because I do not know which one to choose. Which would have been yours, first, second and a third choice? The only thing that seems like an advantage is X-Trafit on Held, since I like to have a better feeling. How is grip on Klim and Revit? Is it significantly different?
You're welcome! I would go REV'IT!, Held, then Klim. 1.) REV'IT! Alaska Gloves: All-leather Push-Pull Tri-Fleece Liner -- X-Trafit feel Thermolite Least bulky Subtle styling Good feel on controls for winter gloves 2.) Held Cold Champ Gore-Tex Gloves: X-Trafit Thinsulate Good feel on controls for winter gloves Bulkier than Alaskas 3.) Klim Element Long Gloves Leather Tons of stretch Slightly bulky Good feel on controls for winter gloves but....the inside liners that touch the tops of your hands are loose and noticeable. If that was fixed, they'd give the Alaskas a run, IMO. The Klim Caldera Gloves fix the issue, but they're $70 more than the Alaskas. I had the Calderas and loved 'em. -HVB
Hi Brian, Do you know if the Barkbusters Blizzard handguards will fit overy the 2011 1200GSA factory handguards? http://www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/barkbusters-blizzard-universal-handguards
Hikertrash, I wasn't 100% sure so I reached out to Barkbusters directly for answers early this morning. Their email just popped into my inbox. "The Barkbusters Blizzard fabric handguards can be fitted over any of our existing two point alloy hardware kits, but require removal of the Barkbusters plastic shields. We have not attempted fitting the Blizzard guards over the original BMW factory handguards but expect it will be unlikely for them to fit comfortably over the top. Although the fabric guards are designed to have some flex and movement the size of the original BMW items seems too large to accommodate." If you want to give them a shot, send me a PM if they don't look like they'll fit correctly and I'll take care of the return for you. -HVB
This just in... "Just realized another important piece of information. With the original BMW bar end set up there is no facility to mount the Blizzard bar end fittings. For the 2011 1200GSA the customer would definitely require our Barkbusters BHG32-NP hardware kit which includes threaded inserts and other components necessary to mount into the handlebars."
As holiday deals come in from brands, I'll be sure to update this thread. I will title the updates "Holiday Deals: Brand(s)" so members not interested in sales can clearly identify the posts and ignore them. Our main focus is always providing value and not spam, but the discounts brands release once a year on Black Friday and Cyber Monday are typically worth mentioning. RevZilla Holiday -HVB
