    Rally Raid comes to Canada

www.GravelTravel.ca is proud to bring a proper off road rally to Canada. In August 2014 the inaugural Canadian Rally Challenge will take place. Using road books and gps; competitors will navigate their way through the trails and roads of the Canadian wilderness.

This three day event is a bit unique for rally raids in that the challenge is to finish. Each day has multiple timed cut off points, reaching them in the allotted time frame enables a competitor to continue. The rally uses public roads and trails so the timing isn’t based on riding at race speeds but rather at a comfortable speed while obeying any local traffic laws. To finish a competitor will have to have a clean run and not get lost.

The location for 2014 will be in Eastern Ontario. It is a multi day rally with each day consisting of 2 to 4 special sections that are navigated using road books. The liaisons are navigated using GPS track files. Competitors are required to hand in their GPS units at the end of each day so it can be verified they followed the correct route. The special sections are a combination of back roads and forest trails. The terrain consists of moderate enduro terrain with many water crossings, mud, single track and rocky climbs.

Rally Raid is a growing sport and we are pleased to be able to offer an event for people on the east coast of North America to test and practice their skills before entering an international event.

The rules are simple, follow the correct route and make each of the cut off points in time and you’ll complete the challenge and be awarded a finishers medal. Several will start, only a few will finish. Are you up for the challenge?

This may be a dumb question....but Im assuming one will need a road book mounted to their bike to do this event? First time out using one...should be interesting....:cromag

What happened to October?!? I think I'm still in for this one, but now I gotta look hard at the schedule. Was planning on hitting the Rock in late August. . .

We'll see how it shakes out.

Yes and you'll want an adjustable odometer. Rally Management Services is your go to place :thumb

Hunting season, Thanksgiving for Canadians and leaves off the trees making the trails dangerous.....September collided with Baja Rally and a few other events.
