I love this bike. I've been riding it in central KY for the last three years, everytime I think I need something bigger it changes my mind. It's nice for bombing around on the back roads, and it's paid for. Here's my wife and the bike crossing a ferry on the Ohio river this morning.
yeah those are really sweet bikes. I bought a Nomad last year, but I sometimes wish I had gone for something smaller.
I like these a lot. They're a great value, if you don't need a full size bike but still want a nicely done mid sizer. Great engine, great chassis, just a nice machine. I hear that burgundy is the fastest color.
Thanks for the kind words, we're in Paris KY, surrounded by great roads. The wife and I really try to get out as often as possible, but most of the miles are clocked riding to work .
My brother bought a new '06 VN900C (Classic) several years ago, rode it for 3 years without a single issue then sold it in '10 to purchase a Harley-Davidson FLSTC (Heritage Softail Classic) ... he loved the Vulcan and often talks of it as a bona fide Heritage Softail Lite. Here he is enjoying a scoot with his daughter back in '08
I have a 98 Vulcan 1500a and a 2008 Vulcan Nomad 1600. They are great bikes. The Vulcan line and especially the 900 are excellent bang for your buck reliable bikes
There isn't any noticeable difference if you compare like models but my 98 Vulcan is dual carbed and 200 pounds lighter than my Nomad so it is has more of both
this bike is on my 3 bike (cruiser) list. What are the 3-4 key +? if any what are the low ones? I would like to have a cruiser for taking my wife or daughter along the rides. and speed is not important (just 60-70 mph cruising) Thanks Damasovi
Not an 900, but an 800. Probably shoulda never sold this one. Handled well for a cruiser, good power, and killer looks....
Damn!! That Drifter is beautiful!! Kawi should ressurect the Drifter on the VN900 platform ... that'd be awesome!!
The Drifter is beautiful, but I wouldn't want to leave town on it. Anybody got a 900 Custom? The one with cast wheels and tubeless tires?
One of my riding buddies has one. He's a "high riser and drag bars" kind of guy, so when he sat on the 900 in the showroom he fell in love. It's feet forward, so he made some mids for it. It's also a little grindy through the turns. But he's a sucker for the classic skinny tall front wheel and drag bars look, so he just lives with it. I like riding it, mostly because the seat is massive and comfortable along with the bars being nicely placed. The engine is peppy and sounds pretty good too. I'd have to upgrade the suspension, but he's a wallet chain and flannel shirt kind of guy who doesn't know what the hell an apex is and doesn't care. So, he likes the crap out of it. And I'm really a doofus for even thinking that bike should be performance oriented when it's just made to cruise.
Heres our 08 custom. $6200 OTD in 09. <a href="<a href=" http:="" s34.photobucket.com="" user="" divo2500="" media="" img_1507_zpsbbac4234.jpg.html"="" target="_blank">">
This bought new in 10 - had 84,000 when I traded in this year. It had tons of extra's and did the west coast twice on both sides of border & rides down south. I only had one complaint with it - It needed more power for the highway when passing especially with 2 up. Other then that I loved this bike and hated to see it go.
Huh? Not many differences from a standard, and those were improvements. Strengthened chassis, etc. I added a windshield and bags to it and did a handful of 3 and 4 days trips, some 2 up. One to the USGP @ Laguna Seca. Great rides. Only reason I sold it was I wanted to back to a sportier ride. Bought an RSL 1100 BMW......
