A BMW 1200 parallel twin...? I guess they would call it the F1200GS "Super Bavarian Tenere" It would be much more narrow, they could give it a 270 firing order and...no, wait a minute! Yamaha already makes this for $5,000 less than a GS. With STANDARD spoke wheels, traction control, three power mode options, ABS, a better final drive, 26,000 mile valve adjustment intervals and a dealer 10 minutes from my house. LOL! I love my GS and my dealer (Morton's) but Yamaha is making is hard to be faithful! Don't worry. Even if BMW abandoned the flat twin today, there would be enough aftermarket business, salvage yards and used parts suppliers to keep your GS going until my 6 year old son retires! Just look at the support airheads, Harleys, VW's and old musclecars enjoy nowadays. If you have enough money, you can build a new '65 Mustang with all new mail order parts!
I've read back about 6 pages in this thread and can't find any info on the new R1200GS coming out? I was wondering about some of the specs? 1. Horsepower? 2. Is it going to weigh more becuase it's watercooled? 3. Did they really move the tailpipe to the right side so now we have to buy completely new panniers? 4. Any pictures out besides that blurry one that was being tested in Spain? 5. When is it supposed to be released? 6. Price?
Sir, You added post 973 to this thread. The number of posts is, in general, inversely proportional to the amount of reliable information available. When no more posts are added to this thread for, say, on month, then there will be loads of threads with content. Such as discussions about panniers and the like. [TaSK]
Post 977. Nothing new to add. DasMatti, wo bist du? Wir brauchen mehr info please ! or we may end up with a Triumph where's that bone?
Mate! No mate! Not good play ground etiquette! Asking this is like que jumping. ..... you'll have to go back and read the rest of this shit like I have had to do to get here and still be frustrated with ...... nothing certain. Sigh
NZRalphy...you sound bitter. ...and a wee bit spun up. Time to switch to decaf. The point is, they hold all the cards. And will play them at their leisure. Which is why, I too, need to switch to decaf.
There are some pics on the new liquid-cooled R1250GS on the German MOTORRAD magazine edition 1/2012 (23.12.2011). Sorry, I dont have any scanner... http://www.motorradonline.de/de/heftausgaben/artikelvorschau/bmw-neuheiten-bmw-r-1250-gs-lc/399136 The pic was pixeled in the hope that you buy the printed magazine, of course.
It is obviously a photo purposely leaked by BMW as is typical how they control the roll out and anticipation of a new entry. Just my $.02 worth....
I think one of the more interesting aspects is now we have seen at least two references to it being designated a "1250". Das Matti mentioned 1250 once as well.
That picture is a real insult to the eye, no picture would have been better...I haven't seen the print copy yet... The one published a while ago shows a lot more...
