Seems that Leatt has a new piece of body armor... 3DF Airfit Body Protector I have been riding with the Adventure Body Protector for the last year or so and it has been great. However, I do lots of slower, more technical riding so the idea of a lighter, less restrictive but just as protective suit is very appealing. Who here has one? Feedback?
I would like to see a real word review too. I have been using a acerbis koerta for years and love the protection, but if this really is lighter, cooler and less bulky i am in .
^^ Probably so. The new Leatt gear just shipped out in early November. I have been impressed with everything I have seen and we have gotten in so far but have yet to see this piece in particular in person.
The new Airlift looks way better than the piece reviewed by Atomic The previous product was about 60% "there". I;m hoping the Airlift is 100%. Richard
Agreed. When I look at these pics... it looks as if the Airlift even has an extra piece covering the upper chest... the piece "missing" in the reviewer's video.
Ok, it seems that not too many people have much first hand experience with the new Leatt 3DF Body Protector. with a bit more research I did find out that the guys at Solomotoparts actually had the opportunity the check one out first hand. It is kind of nice to read something other that than the factory blurb. A couple standout excerpts from the Solomotoparts' blog: I do quite a bit slow technical riding and I get quite hot, so having this suit be light and well ventilated was enough for me to pull the trigger. The Leatt 3DF AifFit Body Protector is on its way to me. Thanks Solomotoparts.com! I will report back once it lands.
In the pics it seems that there are a couple pads in the front... one small up high and one larger one that seems to wrap around some. I am assuming it is that larger pad that is being claimed to offer rib protection. When I get mine (hopefully in the next day or two), I will report back.
Well, so far it's either that or the Leatt 5.5 Pro...the that one looks like it has REAL rib protection.
Just reviewed the photos at Solomoto's blog site. I'm not as in love with the 3DF now as I was hoping to be. I just don't see any rib protection either, in fact right where I would like to see some protection there is a big plastic buckle that actually looks like it could cause pain if you landed on that buckle during a get off.
Looks nice. I'm a fan of the leatt 3df knees and am interested in getting something newer and softer than my awesome but old-tech Dainese Wave. I prefer no elbow pads on my armor though. For some reason I never fall on my elbows and prefer the trade off for cooling ability... And every elbow pad I've tried has given me arm pump on top of that.
I have found that every body armor has elbow pads and then an elastic strap on the forearm to hold the elbow pad in place. I by no means have Popeye forearms... but that elastic strap is ALWAYS way too tight. I usually have to cut it off or find a way to just hold it out of the way.
Recognizing that no one has tried this product out yet, what's the consensus or thoughts about wearing something like this on the road under a textile jacket? Would this offer enough protection?
A lot of textile jackets already have protection built in and I would *think* that doubling up would be too bulky. But I will give you first hand feedback when I get mine.
Thanks. I was thinking under something like the klim traverse which has no padding and is basically a waterproof shell, but appreciate that it would be bulky under something with padding already. Reason I ask is because it would be nice to ride street with this gear to get to the off-road and then throw a jersey overtop when riding the trails. I find it cumbersome to pack up a full padded jacket or armour so this might be a good solution.
