Many of the Chinese scooters use a GY6 engine as does Kymco in 50/125/150/163cc sizes. I believe they are all based on an old Honda design. While the design may be pretty much the same, Kymco's motors are made to much higher standards than most of the cheap Chinese GY6 motors. Because this motor is so common there is a lot of aftermarket support.

Not exactly. You want at least .004 Inch clearance. A little more like .005 is fine too. I'm sure you're engine will run fine with no valve damage if it's .002 however, what if it tightens up a little more. Remember, 0 clearance can mean burning up the valves. The reason .004 is specified is that with that much clearance, it is highly unlikely your valves will tighten up enough to be a problem in the 2500 mile valve check interval.

With .12 inch clearance you'll probably hear tapping.
