Well it's been a long harsh winter here in New England and glad it's almost over I had so many projects I wanted to get done with the bikes but work was keeping me too dam busy. I did find time to get some things on the vstrom done at night and a few weekends. I changed the 19" strom wheels on the bike and hack too 17" Bandit1200 wheels, also changed the calipers from the stock two piston too the Bandit three piston calipers. Replaced front rotors with "wave" rotors and new stainless lines and brake pads. The pain in the ass was the Leading link frontend from "Unit Forks", they were for a Bandit1200 and had no intention of going on without a fight. I still have to figure out a front fender for the fat 17/140 front tire. And last a new 205/17 car tire for the rear. Been on a few rides and seems well sorted
Thanks Clearwater Claude my friend how are you? I had such a busy winter but just bought the steel to build that offroad hack for the xt600 we were discussing at begining of winter. It will be the style that Vern (redmenace) runs on his backwoods rig. My biggest hangup is still the swingarm and shock tower, have to design something before I start cutting tube?
Is the rear wheel also a bandit wheel??.Is the front Bandit wheel a bolt on to the Vstrom STOCK forks????.This is why I ask..
Hi Rider, I've followed your thread from the begining I still like your black chopper you and your son put together The back wheel on my strom is stock, tire is a General 205-55/17 and goes on the stock wheel with a little bit of a The axle size is the same for the Bandit and strom but I know you would have to make some spacers because the the hub on the 19" strom wheel is wider then the 17" Bandit. Also the rotors are offset on the Bandit and flat on the strom, but this might be to your advantage? Rotors could line up with the strom calipers because of this? Rotors are not interchangeable between the Bandit and strom wheels, different bolt pattern. I still have the leading leg kit from Dauntless if any strom owners are interested
I'm planning a CT for the bike in a week or 2.I found a used one to try out first to see if I like it and can mount it myself ( I mount all my own tires..thank you HF tire changer !!!!) GORDON..sent a PM
