We freaked ourselves out when we laid our gear out. It was sobering.

Folks, we were lucky in how we fell, etc. but no helmet = instant death. No gear = no limbs, bones, or skin.

This is why I never go on a trip without full gear and why Grace and I kept all of our gear on all of the time.

MX kneepad shifted in the fall. After this I bought a pair of textile pants with incorporated knee guards.

Thanks for tuning in, this was cathartic!

Next ride report will be much cheerier - Arusha to Lake Natron and back featuring Daniel and Andres once again - coming up soon! :D

Haha - totally! It felt like this weird slow motion dream, particularly when I was skimming along on my stomach and looked to the side briefly to see bushes still going by.

Seems like you did an exceptional job keeping yourselves together. Well done. Glad you are around to talk about it. I know what it feels like to be sliding down the pavement at 70 mph, but not 83. :lol3

I was in Mexico and no one threw a bike at me and I had immediate help from the locals. Not one person tried to take advantage of my situation.

Gnarly story, well done on keeping your shit together. :freakyShit, I would have been very tempted to crush that guy's skull with a rock, but I probably wouldnt have lived long after doing that.

Pretty insane story. Living proof of riding with the right gear. Won't ALWAYS save you but man. I don't think you boys would be smiling if you were wearing shorts and flip flops with a wife beater that I see harley dudes wearing....

i have spent some time in Africa and had the chance of seeing some mob behavior...some scary shit....Africa is hard to understand sometimes. But it is easy to fall in love with it.

Gawd - glad to see you made it out alive!!

As a physician, I am impressed that you got away so lightly. I wonder if you were able to make use of first aid training? Did you get some antibiotics and tetanus coverage?

I sometimes think bikers should avail themselves of some good trauma / first aid courses, and pack a good medical kit for places like this (assuming it's not stolen by a mob). We are all so focused on the tools and maintenance of our bikes. What about ourselves?

I remember you mentioned about this when you replied to Aurel, but had no idea it would be so violent. I could almost see the scene while reading throught your story. Glad that you guys made it out safe. The mob behaviour scared the shit out of me.

There's lots of places on earth that would be cool to ride through, but alas some should be left off of the list. When you and your bike and whatever you have in your pockets represent several years wages for the entire village you are sightseeing through, You could be inviting trouble. I hate that this is a fact!
