Am I a douche for thinking this is a rare instance of perfect justice?

I don't think "perfect justice" has someone dying after making a tragic mistake. If he made the turn with intent to kill, then maybe you're right.

Well-stated, thank you, and certainly my knee-jerk reaction is ugly.

    Here's the thing...

Cruising the news wires this morning there were several instances, not just that one, of reports around the country of vehicles turning in front of motorcycles and inevitably, the motorcyclist(s) die or are crippled. A double fatality yesterday in FL when a couple on a motorcycle got a dose of turning automobile. Another couple died in MI on Saturday, same thing, turning pickup truck.

It is sickening and I'm tired of seeing it. People in this country treat the task of driving far too casually. They know that insurance will pay for their fuck-ups, their airbag-laden cages will protect them and unless they can be proven to be drunk/drugged out of their minds the worst that can happen is they get a traffic summons. Maybe if motorists find out they too can die or become maimed when they hit motorcycles, maybe they'll be just a bit less careless.

To me, carelessness connects to intent just as well as DUI does.

Doesn't stop people from running into semis and trains, so no, probably not going to happen.

So, if I can, when a 4, or more, wheeled vehicle turns left in front of me and is going to cause an accident, I should try to leap off my bike and aim for the windshield of the turner?

    Got it! :thumb

Inattention has consequences sometimes. This time I'm glad to see the them (mostly) applied to the apparently inattentive party.

Nah, they'll just want motorcycles outlawed for being dangerous to car occupants.

Or want car windshields to be motorcyclist-proof.

Not the windshield, but if possible try to jump over the very rigid edge of the car's roof. I know that I can't react that fast, but if one could, and the crash was inevitable, that would be a smart move to make. Probably lay 'er down to slide under a semi trailer, too, and miss the reefer generator hanging under the trailer at the same time....
