I am thinking about getting a GPS for my bike and truck. The zumo has too small a screen for me and is too pricey. I like the looks and features of the nuvi 760 but I read a lot of neg user reviews on amazon and other sites. trouble picking up satelites, buggying out, etc etc This one was good but it is one of those one day type tests: http://gpsmagazine.com/2007/10/garmin_nuvi_760_review.php I like the big screen, ability to make routes, has a earphone jack for the bike (unlike the 200 nuvis), bluetooth for the truck (although my current samsung is not suppoorted). I will end up using it more in my truck so I want a nice display for the whole winter where I am not riding and the zumo just looks chunky and small. Also looking at nuvi 660s which generally have better overall reviews but dont have route making/multiple destination capabilites and is an older model (outdated?) almost considerd at tomtom 910 b/c of ipod hook up and other features until I read all the neg reviews on their actual route selecting. I know these models are not waterproof but they are cheaper now (760 for mid $400 and 660 for mid/low $300). Best buy has the 760 for reasonable price too I think and I could buy a warranty (which I really want) for $70. Any ideas? Am I making a mistake? I may wait for summer so they might even get cheaper.
The lack of waterproofness is a deal breaker, for me. I don't go looking for rain to ride in, but it seems to happen on all of my long trips. You would also have to fabricate a custom motorcycle mount for this, as I don't imagine you would be able to find a motorcycle mount for a non-waterproof unit. One other thought I had: I've used some of the car-only GPS units, and they don't seem as solidly made as the motorcycle ones. I wonder if they would put up with the vibrations very well. That's just conjecture, of course.
I've been using the Nuvi 360 for about 8 months- It's small enough to drop in a pocket and super handy for traveling. Use it mostly in strange cities and driving a rental. Some more local car trips as well as some bike trips. I put it in a crossbar map case- Cycle Active I think. Keeps the rain out. Also works pretty well on a bicycle. Rob
