Well here is my latest project & my first BMW Twin. It belonged to my best mate Gav who was taken early this year by the Big C at only 49, way to young. Anyway he had this old girl for 16 years but she has not turned a cylinder in approximately 8 years. He also spent 5 years living 50 meters from the shoreline so she is not in a good state & is going to be a long term complete ground up rebuild. Looking forward to doing her In a cafe style & have been inspired by many on here. He also had a Moto Guzzi V65 Lario which is In better shape but will still need work. I will pick that up later in the year & work on it alongside the BMW & my immaculate Ducati 906 Paso. Not a bad stable if you like old Euro Twins. Anyway the BM is a 1983 R100, here are some pics to give you an idea of what lies ahead for me. I look forward to milking your collective minds of knowledge over the next year or two.
plenty of potential there, Redpaso. looking forward to further developements. where you located? not yet seeing much in your profile.
I am in Australia, near Taree where Troy Bayliss comes from. I will get into my profile & get some info up there, I have just been lazy as I have only really been lurking, now I will be contributing you can know more about me
Congrats on the project, it looks like you have a great bike to start with! As someone who is (finally) nearing the completion of a very similar project done in memory of a loved one, I can tell you that I think you will find it very rewarding. I've even had a few moments where I truly felt that I could feel the presence of the previous owner of my bike as I worked on it. It has been a very rewarding, enlightening, and humbling experience. I've enjoyed my journey thoroughly and hope you enjoy yours as much! I'll be watching along and will be happy to help if I am ever able. Enjoy!
That tank looks like it's larger than normal. I get the idea it hangs down farther than usual. Looks like you're going to need new fork tubes and headers right off. The brakes are probably frozen as well. Otherwise, it doesn't look too bad. Hope the tank isn't rusty or rusted through!
Sorry to hear about your friend, Redpaso. Your friends bike looks to have been where I'm heading with my PROJECT-S bike > http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=684054 TINK
Really sorry to hear about your mate Redpaso. I went through a similar thing four years ago with a mate of mine. He left me this old high mileage 78 100/7 He'd ridden it all over Europe and ran it as his only transport for 8 years. It desperatly needed some TLC but I didn't want to loose the patina or feel of the bike. It looks like this now and is still a very usable bike despite the high mileage (over 200k miles)
