I was at a garage sale and they had a DVD of the 70s -80s flick "TimeRider" Cool motor head/cowboy fan movie. But what bike was it. Looked like a Yamaha thumper of some sort. Being the Yamawhore that I am I'm going to lie awake all nite guessing what it was.... HELP.
From the Aerostich Web site, where you can buy the movie: Freeride this. A sci-fi/dirtbike/western!! This 1980 Mike Nesmith produced film features Fred Ward, who is inadvertently transported into 1877 aboard his desert bike during a Baja race. The combination of Old West stereotypes and stock characters with an innocent stranger riding a super hot, Champion framed MX 500 Yammie is worth more than a few laughs. Timerider delivers lots of action and an interesting, unexpected twist or two. Very well done in its story, production values, camera work, editing, and stunts. This is a long overlooked film that belongs on every bike movie buffs shelf. Beats the heck out of that rerun on cable channel 59 tonight. DVD, 94 min., color.
The XT was the dualsport one. The TT was the good dirt only model Had 2 myself back then. I'm sure it was a TT. Would love to get a copy of this movie.
lol... i was just thinking about that movie the other day. rented it when i was kid and watched about 5 times in 24 hours. it stuck with me - but i'm not sure if i would want to see it again or not. kinda like watching Dukes of Hazzard reruns... they were alot better in my childhood memories
I remeber that movie( I was 12 at the time) Thought it was the greatest movie i had ever seen! (I was 12!)I will have to get a copy on DVD for the collection.
I`ve got that movie on VHS when a mom and pop video store was going out of business in Pensacola. As hokey as the trailer looks, the movie is really very good, with a pretty good plot and a bunch of funny parts thrown in. "If General Lee had that machine,,,,,,we`da won the war!" The heads up display helmet was pretty neat too. Here is the link to the preview: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0086443/trailers-screenplay-E21718-10-2 One part I didn`t understand,,,,,,,,,,,Seems he screws his beautiful great-great-great grandmother,,,,,,and ends up being a decendant,,,,,,,,,,,,or something like that. What was that all about??????????????? Regards, Tony
Good luck finding it at the local video store. I saw it at the theater as a youngster, back when the big theater had 2 screens.
Man, this thread puts a smile on my face just like the movie did the first time I saw it. A buddy of mine had a copy of "Timerider" and I can't tell you how many times we watched it. I may have to just buy a copy of my own. Thanks for the trip down memory lane!!
XT500 VS TT500 same thing with out all the DS stuff (lights, speedo, etc) and a smaller stator...IIRC. saved a few pounds. was one a the all out funnest bikes I ever had. just was fun. nothin more nuthin less. wheelied fer days too. I stripped my XT down and it looked the same as the nieghbors TT down to the bolts.
Wasn't it a C&J framed Honda? I remember watching that movie a long time ago. It was pretty cool and fun to watch.
what i liked was he never ran out of gas it was like the six shooter that shot all day long, in those westerns
that's what's known as a paradox! *****spoiler alert!***** (hey, it's a 25 year old movie... gimme a break!) at the beginning of the movie, he's shown putting his grandfather's pocket watch in his pocket and carries it on the race as a good luck charm. during the movie he "gets the girl". at the end of the movie, when he's "rescued", she reaches out to him and grabs the watch. (as a memento of their time together, or an accident? ) so, he's his own grandfather! the question is, where DID the watch come from?
