No such thing as bad weather, only inappropriate clothing ... but yeah, the weather's been crap north of Akl too.

Good luck with getting the bike crated igor, and I hope you had a warm dry bed for the night ... on the bright side, I'm sure there'll be plenty of cold damp and dismal nights when you do reach Mongolia ...

Looks like Igor left v.early this morning. The spot tracker shows him nr Cambridge as I post

Hi again - Penny here.

(I had to sign up as I'm at work and don't have access to Igor's login from here - good thing I know just enough about bikes to pass the spam test!).

Igor rode through the most atrocious rain and wind, and made it to his parents' place in Cambridge at 3am. Headed off to Auckland at 7am, and is now crating the bike up at Jenners. Fingers crossed it all goes smoothly and he can then go and dry off.

At least it was a good test for the bike modifications and the weatherproofness of our panniers and dry bags.

Rest assured we don't intend to ride in through the night in the depths of a storm if we can at all avoid it on our trip.

Sorry for the issue with the spot tracker - the device was running low on battery and so didn't work properly. All fixed up now though.

I'm sure Igor will be posting in the next day or so about all the trials and tribulations of final preparation.
