Put iOS 6 on my 3GS. Noticeably faster which is nice on my 3-year-old phone. No problems at all with the upgrade. I never used the maps much anyway, so the maps problems aren't an issue for me. The GPS in my car or on my bike has better navigation anyway. And when I want maps on my phone, I use Google. Jamie
I went to my local Apple store yesterday to check it out and if anything it seems smaller than my 4 (I know it's an illusion ) but the 5 is noticeably thinner or certainly feels it. Very nice design.
I looked at one yesterday. It's noticeably lighter. Very fast. The proportions aren't as nice as the 4S.
IOS6 seems to be faster on my iPad. Maps are different but faster. If you go to google you can add google maps to your home screen. The map loss is not an issue. JG
My phone is a 4s. I did not realize YouTube was gone. Re-downloaded it, What is Jasmine? The New OS seems to make the Phone faster. I like the Panorama pic format on the camera.
The new map seems to kill a battery pretty quickly. I'm assuming that the old version didn't check in as often. I like the turn by turn directions, but I need to be aware of turning it off after I reach my destination - just like my real GPS app.
The "Do Not Disturb" feature is worth upgrading, IMO. I got tired of getting late night email notifications because I forgot to turn off the sound.
It's not an illusion. It *is* smaller. Tim Cook made a big point of repeating that over and over at the keynote address, an apparent dig at Samsung. "Anyone can make a phone bigger, we made ours smaller and lighter." Jamie
Even with the sound off the thing vibrates and lights up though. I just updated to 6. Seems to open mail faster. I also like the VIP in mail.
They figured out how to eliminate one sheet of glass on the front by making the touch screen the same as the display screen. It used to require two sheets of glass. Thinner, and lighter. I wonder if breaking the screen will become more expensive?
They also removed the glass back and made it aluminum. The 5 is a lot lighter but it's strange that there are complaints that it's too light now. :huh
You can either invoke it manually or have it automatically enabled on a schedule. Mine is configured to be DnD from 11:00pm to 8:00am.
Downloaded the new OS yesterday. Seemed to go smoothly. For sure a lot smoother than the switch to i OS 5. I haven't noticed any significant changes but I haven't had time to screw around with the phone either. I did notice a different and easier to read screen for punching in phone numbers. Were there camera upgrades?
I spent some time at the Apple store today. You are correct. The 5 does feel smaller than the 4 or 4s. It is lighter and thinner and that feels like it makes up for the increased length. I am getting a 5. I flirted with the idea of switching to Android but I really just want a phone that works. I don't want to tinker with it.
It's a YouTube player app. I haven't used it much yet, but it seems pretty slick. It's free, give it a try.
Yeah I did. Mostly just to un-jailbreak. It's a company phone, and for some reason they thought I was pissing myself wanting a 5. So mine goes to some poor schmo and I get to hunt for another case that can tolerate how I treat phones. The extent of what I've noticed so far.... The number keys in the phone part show up white.
