Death Valley National Park Info and Guide

Like all national parks, entering Death Valley NP we are subject to the same National Parks Rules and Regulations

    National Park FEES

    please read.

first, there's no cell service at PSR, then we can't rely on the spotty wifi to connect to the outside. there are cell services at furnace creek (not sure if stovepipe has signal). we are pretty much unplugged for most of the time.

yes....i will have a sat phone for emergency use (2 others are bringing theirs)....:D

if you want the #, send me an email at advsprinter at gmail.com

    please include

    name - advhandle - phone #

share the # with your family members to contact you in case of an emergency at home. you may also use the phone on a limited basis; for emergency or special case.

"2013 noobs death valley rally" is also known as the march madness dv rally. death valley has so much to offer, all kinds of terrain, from too easy to very challenging. so many places to ride, some are less than 3 miles from camp, and some are far enough that your limit is your fuel range.

happy to say, this will be our 8th event, and just keep on getting better

    past RR:

    1st noob's rally, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th

if you have the time, please check out the RRs.

this is an event that is focused to get noobs and returning adv riders to come out and meet like minded people. taking care of the noobs has been our tradition, however, the rest of the year - you're on your own.......:D.... j/k

not just for noobs, the truth is all skill levels are welcome;and had participated in the past. as always, many helped out and provided support.

another objective of this event is to raise money for charitable organizations dedicated protecting our cause - the enjoyment of the outdoors and sharing of the trails and public lands. donations had been made to california off-road vehicle association (corva), blue ribbon society (brc) and stewards of the sequioas (sos). couple of years ago, we raised a good amount of $ and were sent to "rider down foundation" through jimmy lewis. we plan to do the same thing again this time.

    donation summary

    $1K to blue ribbon coalition

    $1k to corva

$800 to stewards of the sequoia

    $200 to rider down foundation

the amount is not much. please check out their website and be a member, give donations and volunteer.

    they need our help.

hope to see you many of you there...:wave

PLEASE do not PM me asking for details or making inquiry, POST THEM UP!

others and i will try to answer your question. many could benefit from the answers too. thank you.

    EVENT DETAILS AND INFORMATION

    1. the event is from thursday to sunday

    2. come in earlier or leave later...you're on your own, including camping.

    5. your name badge will have your dinner code. DT = thursday dinner, DF = friday dinner and DS = saturday dinner or D3 - 3 nights dinner. that is your pass for whatever dinner you paid.

    6. you also get a raffle ticket. make sure you write your adv handle on the back of the ticket. we won't be calling ticket # but your adv handle. put ticket in the raffle jar.

DINNER will be at site #46 - BRING YOUR OWN FORK, SPOON, SPORK AND CUP. ONCE YOU'RE DONE WITH YOUR PAPER PLATE - WE WILL HAVE AN AREA TO BURN THOSE PAPER PLATES. NO PLASTICS PLEASE!

    FOUR Changing Mats!

    http://trailmasteradventures.<WBR>com/mat.html

The Changing Mat is a lightweight folding mat that will keep your wheel out of the dirt when changing a flat. The pocket it packs into becomes a temporary storage place to keep all the small parts, like your axle nut, value stem or tools when doing a tire change. It will keep your socks clean when changing out of your riding gear. It serves as a door mat when getting in and out of your tent. Use it for a food prep station when you don't have a picnic Mat. Only your imagination will limit the many ways you can use The Changing Mat.

    What to Bring List:
There have been a lot of great examples of what to bring, in DV prepare for the worst. This is a list of what you should have on your person for each days ride.
You might not need it but be glad it is there in case you do.

    • Food and water - in case you spend the night on the trail.
    • emergency space blanket (they pack small)
    • OTC Pain Meds - Asprin, Aleve etc
    • Flash light/head light
    • Spot - Good idea to have
    • Duct Tape - This can be used as a bandaid, splint etc
On the bike you should have at a min 2 tubes, hand pump and what ever tools and extra fasteners your brand of bike is prone to losing.

And most important use common sense. If you are at Tea Kettle, a new rider and it is getting dark.
Take the easy way home, Lippencott is not the right choice.
Pride cometh before the fall (and fall and fall and fall...you get the idea).

Sometimes it is better to wait for help than to keep going. If you are with a group and one person is broke down wait with the broken down person while the faster riders (if present) go for help. They will tell the people coming to get you there are two bikes not just one for example. Just use your best judgement, that is by far the most important tool you have.

If a group ride is full post up and we'll split or add one. Any group over 10 can easily be split into two groups with a couple of more riders added on.

If you know you're not going to do a ride you're signed up for then please do take your name off so someone else can sign up. YOU CAN ONLY DO ONE RIDE PER DAY!!

thurs to Sunday, trucking in, KTM 690r
    all meals.

This is going to be a great rally! This will be my third, and they seem to just get better and better...

I saw that jarthur had a great write up on bike prep and maintenance. I shared a camp space with him last year and can say that he really knows his stuff. I would only add that if you have never changed a flat or patched a tube, practice one in your garage.

The following is a list of tips collected from some of the "vets", including Joel:

    1. spare front and rear tubes, patch kit and pump
    2. tools
    3. water and energy bar
    4. cash
    5. bike in good working condition
    6. decent - good tires
    7. up to date or done recent bike maintenance
    8. after returning from a ride, fill up, next morning may not be the same
    9. wear proper riding gear and protection, this means proper off road riding boots and pads!
    10. practice on how to change a tire before the rally
    11. whenever entering the national park boundaries, pay the park fee and observe the park rules and regulations.12.
    12. if you can get a spot, bring it and share your share page with someone else
    13. learn how to use your gps if you're planning to bring it
    14. stay hydrated, bring hat and sunscreen
    15. Carry a map of the area, NatGeo makes a good one. You can also download some online. Gps's don't always work!
    16. Ride in a group, at least two or three, especially if you're a "noob"
    17. Keep in mind that we are guests in the park, and Panamint Springs Resort. This means pack out what you bring in, or at least make sure any trash makes it to the dumpster.

If you've never been to a Noob Rally, it's a pretty welcoming place. Take a chance to introduce yourself to Joel/NSFW and thank him. He's a great guy and the original "Uber Noob" :)

    See you PP's out there,

    John
