Does anyone know for certain if the 2011 GS now has the updated switchgear (single switch for turn signals, single position heated grips, etc.) ?

Man, wouldn't that piss off a bunch of us current owners if they changed the switchgear?! If/when I buy a new GS I hope those switches are just where they are now.

I despise the new style turn signal switch. It is not as safe as the "paddle" switch on each side of the bars.

Being the horn is now located in a more natural position for the thumb, I'd say the oppisite is true.

I switch back and forth between bikes with the two types of switches. I find the GS paddle switches much easier to use, as I don't have to rotate my hand on the grip to reach the switch with my thumb. My GS paddles are more ergo-friendly, by far. Unfortunately, BMW is slowly bowing to the less-friendly Japanese switch arrangement.

On the other hand, I do wish they would get rid of the self-cancelling feature. It can be a nuisance...

I would welcome the new switch. One switch to replace 3 in the current configuration.

I almost traded in my 09 RT for a 2011 RT and after a couple test rides I really didn't like the change either. I'm sure one would get used to it though.

With the paddles on each bar I don't have to think about turn signals.
Going right - just swipe the right thumb.
    Going left - just swipe

Thin summer gloves, insulated winter gloves, triple digit rain gloves, it's always just a swipe. The size of the target you aim at is large so you just need to be close. That little nub is much more difficult to find.

I had a K13GT with the new style and you have to locate and then operate the switch. Maybe I'm old school but I would pay extra to keep the current switch option.

The only issue with the new switchgear I've found is in combination with the multi-controller. Wife has the multi-c on her 2010 RT, and its easy to bump it when going for the turn signal switch. Any bump of the multi-c causes it to command the audio system (usually to change songs when controlling her iPod, plugged into the system). Of course, that may be just because I've got spastic thumbs...
