This isnt an ad. OK here it is. I have 2 1977 r100s' completely apart. NO fairings. Both have titles. Really its about 1 complete bike. We will call bike 2 frame and shortblock. Bike #1 is a late 76 build date. #1 is the complete one. Overall condition fair. Problems. #1 was wrecked. Frame seems bent, engine took a hit. #2 was heavily used and has been parted. Frame is good excepting the steering stop is bodged. Related problem, I have new parts as well. Timing chain, tensioner, gaskets, seals. Fork seals, washers, bumpers, etc, . Oil filter kit, rear main, clutch hub oring and oil pump oring. more little things I would like to keep it together. I'd really like to keep it as well. But im in over my head on a 1955 r50 project. I need space and money. I feel like I could part it north of $2000. Easy. But that takes time. What is a reasonable price for the whole pile? I know you have limited info. I dont want to go over every detail. I do know details but its a lot of ground to cover. Same for pics. Im thinking $1750.
pack in the smallest way possible throw away the rubbish. put in the back of you shed. forget about it great surprise when you find it in 15years cheers
I like that strategy. I have lots of airhead "extras" and a couple of water-tight 40 ft. shipping containers with shelving. But at my age, it seems more likely that someone will find ME in 15 years (or less).
Things to remember and consider,...... A title is worth at least $250, more in a State that has strict rules. Don't throw anything away no matter how worn or trashed it seems. To a new owner or prospective owner, it's information at the very least. Collect the parts into "like" boxes, all the crank parts together, all the clutch parts together,..... Someone who knows these bikes will know the value. Advertize it for $1750 but be ready to accept an offer. This may be the right time of year to offer it for those looking for a winter project. It would sell quickly for $500, not so fast for $1000,.... for $1750 it's going to be around for a while but someone will eventually see the value and give an offer.
I've been sitting on the parts for about 10 years now. Now is time to sell. Project not ever going to happen for me. Into a 1955 r50 project. There isnt space in my head, shed or wallet for both. Plus the other four lesser bikes already boxed in the back of the shed.... Is a 77 r100s with a late 76 build date desirable to anyone? Ive heard yes and no. Also titles make me want to keep it together. Hard to get them these days.
I'd say a fair price. A speculator might pick them up and part it all , extracting the last of the value, which is considerable. Some stuff won't keep. a 5 year old "new" oil filter is good maybe for quick break-in work but otherwise unreliable. It ain't archival paper in those things. Rubber may or may not be good depending on storage. Away from light, heat and solvent fumes, it usually lasts awhile but can harden. Esp. tires. Brake rubber likes brake fluid, fresh. Used brake parts rust like crazy unles stored fully cleaned--or filled with fresh fluid and maintained. it's a haul-away, which is a downside compared to a fly and ride. So geography matters. If you have to drive too far, the advantage is lost. I'd throw it on the FM here and on IBMWR and see what bites. On craigslist I can tell you what bites, and in some locales, even the eBay sellers that will be all over it. I wouldn't take less than 1750. two running engines are worth that and a pair of trannies and rear drives is gravy. Wheels even more so if strait. A bent frame w/ title is worth a little, mostly for the title which can be "transferred" to another frame., a strait one with title much more, no shadiness required. The instruments if working and tank if solid are valuable. Price out the big stuff, ask market, and let the little stuff sweeten the deal. The more time you spend selling parts the more you will make...but it's time... The last time I parted a perfectly running bike I got my asking price for it running in about 3 months. All IBMWR. (No takers for it running). At a year I had about $1500 more. I have some left yet...some I've used on a current bike, some stored. The block and front end are awaiting sale to some lucky buyer. I parted a non-running but cosmetically excellent early K100 and made a LOT on it. Took less than 6 months and I have only a piece of plastic left. The body work all went quickly and for very good money, all to people that had hit deer. These people had fat insurance payments, a "free" bike and cash to burn. The engine and driveline went as a unit for one and a half times what I had in the whole bike. The staintune exhaust and various bits did very well. This was an eBay effort but I didn't ship much. The local buyers were all over it.
