Paul's stuff is excellent, no doubt. I've equipped bikes with it in the past and turned some riding buddies on to it. I particularly dig the lever clamp/switch combo bits. I like the triple clamp mount that I've used on previous bikes for the added strength and multiple load pathways. A top clamp mount means all the load in a tip over is transferred through the bar mount bolts. If nothing else, the wider bracing angle of the guard bolted at/near the triple will keep the bars straighter for longer. I'll post some pics when I get something together.
Why reinvent the wheel, when you can go ride yur bike? ;-) That area of the top of the fork tubes is so crowded, I can hardly get in there to air bleed or turn the clicker. If and when you drop the tubes, it is more stuff to do/undo. Have fun, send pics if you do it.
Trackmaster II front tire washes out very easily in my experience. The Kenda Washougal (80/100-21) is much better, and is DOT approved, even if it's not marketed as such. The only marking that matters is the DOT identification number. This is an alpha-numeric identifier that starts in "DOT." For example, the Washougal 80/100-21 front tire is "DOT K3LU", the Kenda K270 4.60-18 rear tire is "DOT K3Y3", and the Kenda Trackmaster II 100/100-18 rear tire is "DOT K3KP." If the tire does not have the DOT identifier, it's not approved, and any cop who checks should recognize that. So, if you choose to run a non-DOT tire, don't waste your effort trying disguise it.
Hey Rensho! Are you still running your oem clutch cover? Did you ever swap to a rekluse? I still owe you a Case Saver if you want it. Just let me know. I can drop one off to you. As for DOT, I agree, I've never been questioned about it ever. They'd be too busy writing up all the other tickets to get that one. hahaha
It happened to me last year ....young NY sheriff was trying to find something to ticket me on. He pulled me over on my 570 Berg because he stated it appeared I was riding a dirt bike on the road. He was actually correct, but I was 100% legal.
Yeah...if they are really trying to get you on something they could check. But there was likely a trigger reason tjey pulled you over or are checking.
Still dealing with the odd flameout. Anyone run the FMF megabomb header and have it cure the flameout. I only get 1-2 during a 60-70 mile ride and it's when I'm tired and not ready for it, like at low rpm in 2nd or 3rd gear, entering a rock garden. I twist and poof, I'm almost over the bars. 2011 FE 570 2003 ZX12R Life is good!
I use a Suter slipper clutch in mine set to engine break like a 2 stroke. Really helps with a light flywheel high compression motor. No more parachute effect when you back off the gas! Other option is a rekluse auto clutch. But I prefer a slipper.
I did turn it up, but it will get very hard to start when hot if turned more the 3 clicks. I will try running some seafoam through the next tank. 2011 FE 570 2003 ZX12R Life is good!
In case anyone is looking for a good 70 degree Berg for sale.... http://advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=994016
So coming back frim a ride yesterday arvo I noticed that my dash didnt have that cool orange backlight, is there a setting to turn this on and off or a fuse somwhere? Also the battery seemed to be lacking when starting, not sure if these are connected?
Have you checked your valve clearance and timing chain tensioner? You might try a fresh fuel filter and spark plug.
Most likely it is not getting 12v from iignition . check wiring for shorts and loose connections. On my Fe390 flameouts are much less than my WR450 but more than my XR400, if that makes sense. You ride with a finger on each lever?
Thinking about selling my 690 in favor of a 2012 570. I like the 690 but I bought it thinking I would do more "adventure" riding. Hasnt been the case at all. I commute 12km to work and back a few days a week and ride with buddies who have 350-525 cc bikes a few times a month. Im leaning towards the 570 with cush drive so I can do a few road miles. . They are just dead sexy
