I currently have Renthal RC High Fatbars with a KTM 18mm riser on my '07 990 abs. The bars are rolled forward a bit so they're probably a bit higher than stock on their own before the riser. This is not a bad setup but I could use more bar height for standing (I'm 6'4 with a long torso but must have t-rex arms or something). I've also got the hots for some HDB handguards so I figure it's time to work over my controls setup. I'm getting ready to pull the trigger on some HDB handguards, and also am thinking of going with 2" ROX risers and then using the bars I have now with HDB handguards. I'm looking for any experiences with fitment issues, etc with the HDB. I've searched a ton and haven't found any examples of folks using HDB handguards with risers AND tall bars. Any experiences with this?
The risers shouldn't matter at all, if you're still using the HDB top clamp *on top* of your risers (as opposed to underneath, with the riser tops on top) as the inboard anchor for the guard arms, because the risers merely move the whole assembly up 2" or whatever. The real question is if the HDB guards work with tall bars. You might hit up the HDB site...they have great service, and know a lot about the bikes their products go on. Having said that, though, I'm quite sure you can make it work. The HDB top clamp uses pivoting anchors, and you can bend the guard arms quite easily with a vice. I have the HDB guards (and Rox risers, but standard bars), and I bent them around a bit to fit around my non-stock brake lines and GPS mounts. No problem. One detail that may or may not affect you, though: if you have a Scotts upper triple clamp, the Rox risers will sit slightly outboard of stock, as the Scotts stems are fatter. That means the bar top bolts are more than the standard 100mm apart...more like 108mm. If you're ordering a HDB top clamp, you'll want to measure and specify the right width. Because the HDB top clamp is all one piece (not two separate pieces), you need to have the right width. Eric
Just installed the HDB hand guards. No trouble at all. I also have the 1 3/4 in rox risers. Paul at HDB is class act. By the way the bike not only looks tougher but is.
Here is a link to a Thread I did on installing Dirt in Blood 2 inch risers. There is a pic of the front brake line where it is attached to the lower triple clamp with stock bars the line is just long enough. With higher bars it could be a problem. I now have HDB hand guards and mirrors and they are AWESOME. http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=449975
Great info guys - sounds like it should work out. I'm checking into the bar bend with hdb. torinreality, You mentioned non-stock brake lines - do you mind me asking where you got them? I need a longer line from the hand brake to the abs pump. I figured I'd order a custom one but I'm not sure what fittings are needed.
I've got the Scott's Triple Clamp, the Dirt n Blood Risers and the DBH set up with the DBH plate "on top". I still need another 1" of rise. Are there riser blocks I can find somewhere to stack below my Dirt N Blood base to give me this rise, or some other approach?
I'm running Renthal RC High Fatbars and the HDB setup. You may have to tweak the metal guards a little (I did) but they'll work.
You did see that HDB has different offset clamps right? I got the tall ones. I think you can have custom offset made on request.
Tony, I have the exact set up. It's a good fit but you will have to grind a RCH off the underside of the riser depending on the angle you like your bars. I'm talking like 32nds. Nothing big and good setup. This is required because the HDB top clamp is F'n beefy. Nth
How much extra rise do you get from the RC Highs? I presently have the CR High Fatbars on now, but need more height.
RC high bars are wider and higher and have less sweep than CR High. I was able to eliminate risers by switching to the RC High bars- and they have less sweep, which is good for my monkey-long arms. Hello all - so I got my handguards and test fitted them today. They seem to be rotated too far forward due to the fact that I've got the ROX risers mostly vertical. When the risers are vertical it rotates the top clamp so that it's basically parallel with the ground, and then the handguards rotate forward. Does anyone have pics or suggestions that might help me get these things rotated up without rolling the rox risers back?
I have the HDB Handguards and Top Clamp as well with the 2" HDB Risers. Well only have the risers and top clamp installed since the guards were fighting me so much and I did not have a vise to bend them to fit. Well I ended buying the 2" Rox Risers and the RC High Bend Bar to do the same as the OP. I dug out the old bottom clamp and clamped the Rox to it just to find out how high of a rise I would get using the stock bottom clamp. Ends up being 3" from bottom of clamp to center of bars. That is 1" higher than the HDB riser. The problem is the stock bottom clamp flares out and pushes the hole centers apart for the HDB Top Clamp. This needs to be ground flush so the Rox Risers can come together allowing the HDB Top Clamp to line up. Have other OCers had this problem? The bike is an 06 950s. Have the Bottom Clamps changed over the years? Anyone have pictures of the actual set up showing the Bottom Clamp, Rox Risers and HDB Top Clamp bolted up? I also have CJRACER's Solid Clamp for the risers which I wanted to use but this also spreads the Rox Risers apart not allowing the top clamp to bolt up. Thanks, Jim
I have the 1 3/4 Rox risers. I really like them to get the bars higher and farther forward. Fitment issues to be aware of: Cable length is close. I have the Magura SX bars, so not very high rise. I don't think the stock cables will work with a higher rise. The Rox risers move the center-center distance of the top clamps. Going by memory here - KTM stock is 90mm, after adding the Rox risers, it was 100mm. This worked out great for me because I had a Fastway top plate and bash bars that fit. If you want the Rox risers, you'll need to get the right HWDB top plate.
was thinking of buying the 990 SMT handguards and fitting them to Rhental RC high bars, anyone know if they will fit?
