If I thought getting AT's into this country was a straight forward process with no surprises I would do it.

Having just resolved a 4 1/2 year old title issue with our insane NC DMV I'm hesitant to even think about what I would go through with both state and federal requirements for importing a bike.

Life's too short to go through that but it sure would be fun to have a few AT's in my hands.

Probably shouldn't say too much because big brother might be listening, but in some states it's down right easy.

Does anybody know of somebody making lower foot pegs? Im 6'3" and feel I could use less bend in my knee when I ride. Im planning on a new seat (Touratech) which I think is higher too, but the pegs would sure help out... Bike is 07A

Thanks, I have several reasons why I should visit the NW, this is just one more great reason!

2bold..... I have heard how easy some states are when dealing with the DMV, it only makes living here all the more agravating. I day dream about moving to Tennessee, plenty close to mountains, no personal state income tax, definately a motorcycle friendly state.

As far as getting a "created" or "manufactured" title from one of the several title companies that are out there it can cost hundreds of dollars and with no garranteed results, besides that NCDMV is on to these title mills, they can and do refuse them and then you are back at square one.

It's the Feds importing beauacracy I am worried about. I once sold something to a guy in the UK and several weeks later got a bill from the US customs office, just a bill, no number to call, no discussion, no appeal, just a bill. If you don't know what you did wrong how do you know not to do it again? This is why I will not ship parts outside the US.

I'm convinced importing bikes has a lot to do with who you know and how best they can work the system. So far I think it would be simplier to just move to Germany to own a AT.

Since it's being currently discussed, I would like to add some info about the @ from us here in Greece.

Although it was a very popular model in its days, they are slowly becoming increasingly rare, especially the ones in good condition. Currently there are 131 africas for sale around the country, ready to purchase, ranging from 500 to 5000 euros. You can see them here.

With the crisis and all, many owners have changed their minds and have decided to keep their twins, as they can be maintained very cheaply and are hardy, well-built bikes.

I believe in about 8-10 years they will be truly collectors items, because they are used as everyday bikes and the attrition rate is high (crashed or totalled)...

A few years back one could hardly swing a dick without bumping an africa...

On other news, I put the K60 scouts on the bike, I like them a lot! The bike feels shorter in traffic, turning is easier and the bike handles great. There is a bit of vibration coming on the handle bar, but nothing too serious. Haven't tried them off road but I'm sure they will be acceptable for my demands, which are pretty low for off road...

Hey Mark.......Let me know if you get a 'viewing" and I will bring mine and have a NC AT gathering.
I have also heard that someone in Kentucky has one and there used to be one in Atlanta, saw it at a TA rally at TWO several years ago.
I got mine from Krautbikeman in Fl.

it´s been a long time since i wrote some..

Hi everyone.

Need some help with front forks disassembly on a 1997 AT. I like to clean them and change the oil and seals (never being replaced), but I have difficulties to loosen up the damper rod bolt. Mistake I did was not loosening them when the forks were on the bike. Now they are turning together with the damper rod. Ive put back on the springs and compress them in order to make more pressure on damper rod but without success. Is it necessary to remove the dumper rod in order to separate the tube from the slider?

Also there is some part moving inside the tube when it is compressed. If it is extended there is nothing moving inside. Is this normal or there is something out of its place?
