Hallo Boxer-Drivers, my Name ist Manuel Schad from germany. In my small firm in the north of bavaria, we build BMW for hard trips. http://youtu.be/lnfLJpJHheE https://picasaweb.google.com/endurob...35201842632610 I alos have a page with informations about my EnduroBoxer http://www.EnduroBoxer.de at this point I would also report on the reconstruction of my Battle-Twin.
Hi Manuel, good to see you have made it over here. I have been watching your progress over on the 2V- GS forum with interest. The translators I use have made some of the text hard going though. Your bike has been brought up here from time to time, & there have been a lot of interest in it.
Hi Manuel, welcome to ADV Oldschool. I too have spent may hours studying the photos in your gallery and am particularly fond of one of the GS's with the 1100 rear end. Cheers Phil
Ray Peake, the bloke who built my bike is going to use an 1150GS swingarm on his next special, starting very soon.
Manuel could you tell us how much wheel travel you get out of your 1100 swing arm? Did you do something to the oil pickup in the sump with the engine tilted that far backwards ? Thank you,
Thanks to all who have interest in my BMW Boxer. I am going to try to answer a few questions. The bike has. Like all KTM and Husaberg models a travel of almost 300mm on the front axle Behind it have become with many modifications nearly 280 mm. This conversion is only suitable for the tough racing conditions. The engine has considerably less oil than the standard unit. We have no Probelm with the foaming of oil. The only problem we had in recent years was the loss of the oil on the exhaust of the engine into the air filter box. Yes, with the modifications to the modern wing of the 1100s BMW models we already have several years of experience. We have some speziale productions facilitate the conversion. Now nearly a special rubber is for the connection between the transmission and swingarm on the market. A longer bolts for the swingarm is also planned. The new framework for the 2013 season has also got a changed geometry of the shock region. I hope I could answer some questions.
Manuel - Nice bike! Your work has already shown up here on ADVrider in a few places. I saw your thread over on 2-ventiler and was curious what the final weight of that bike is? I saw all of the lightened pieces you used and was wondering if you could tell us how much weight you were able to take off each of the major pieces. Did that rear hub come from HPN?
Hello Airhead Wrangler The bike weighs with battery and all oils without fuel approx 157kg. Points to note: The tire with mousse are very heavy. The wheel hub and rear wheels we can manufacture ourselves.
Man look at that digital scale...I think we can safely trust that your weight isn't a guess! That's 345 pounds with no gas. According to AW, the 1100 swingarm weighs 11.5 pounds more than a stock monolever. Manuel hasn't chopped the top off his engine either. What do you think, Spencer? Can we get a stock bike down to 330? Not as light as a DRZ but hell a DRZ doesn't have a 1000cc high comp engine Works Cited http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?p=15691007&highlight=swingarm+weight#post15691007
I think those photos manuel put up aren't the most recent. He cut the top off his engine, cut off half the cooling fins, got rid of his starter motor, and lightened a bunch of engine, final drive, and transmission internals. Have a look here: http://advrider.com/forums/showpost.php?p=20727935&postcount=23
Yowza. @Manuel. Is that number after you ditched the starter/battery? Wait, forget about that. How hard is that thing to kick!?
I didn't see it on your site. How much does it cost? Does it use straight or bent spokes? Is it compatible with bmw cross spoke rims or only conventional center spoke rims?
Hello Clay Spinner, you can attend the G / S BMW use the final drive of the K models and reshape it so on four holes with disc brakes. So it is possible to use my wheels and hubs! Hello bgoodsoil, I'm doing the translation pretty hard! Please no phrases. Our wheels / hubs were subject to scrutiny for admission. Therefore, the high weight. A relief of the hub is not a problem. But then I can not guarantee übernehemen. Thus, this is just for racing! The rest I have unfortunately not understand! The BMW should normally be relatively easy kick, or start with the foot. But in racing you do not find the time for a suitable place to start. The weight is provided with the starter and the battery. Hello Airhead Wrangler, the hub has 36 spokes and it is built by a Japanese rim Excell! The spokes are bent only slightly. The cost for the front fork KTM 490, - The cost for the rear disc brake model 999, -
