"Ride Oregon First" Dual Sport Motorcycle Tours:

Let me show you the BEST time that you've ever had riding motorbikes, starting within an HOUR of Portland, Oregon.
The Secret Stuff. The Hard to Find Stuff. The really FUN Stuff.
The REALLY GOOD Stuff that most folks unknowingly... just ride and drive right past :cry
This is the Cascade Mountain Range version of the OBCDR, with LESS pavement and MORE fun.

Our 3-Day/Night Cascade Discovery Route Tour provides ALL logistics and trip planning.
Great, Hearty Homecooked Campsite Dinners are included for all 3 nights.
We're talking Steak Fajitas, Spaghetti & Meatballs, and a surprisingly delicious Chicken Tortilla Surprise!
Good Coffee and Bad Oatmeal :D will also be provided for each morning.
Each Tour is normally limited to a maximum 4 riders to keep it efficient and fun.

ONLY for this first 2013 season of Touring:
ADVers can have an introductory price of $399 for the full 3-day & night Cascade Discovery Route Tour.
This price will change next season....this year I need to build up Tour Reports and Clientelle.
Please don't confuse me with a n00b, just because my Tour is new.
I have been specifically designing and riding this Cascade Discovery Route for three years, 10-14k miles a year,
.....to put together the BEST Dirt Roads & Trails in Oregon's Great Cascade Mountains.

I have shared this Route with many groups of mid-size thumpers to big trailies,
even a fully loaded Ural Patrol with a maniac at the bars!!
Sixteen 950/990 KTMs rode "Day One" of the Route on the way to the KTM Rally in Bend.
Now THAT was a Thunderous Hoot!.
Everyone was very pleased that it offered constant challenges,
yet was still completely ridable by anybody that set their mind to it.

If you'll trust me in my first year of Professional Dual Sport Motorcycle Touring.....
I will, in turn, show you the BEST old untouched and unimproved dirty Dual Sport Roads in the Cascade Mountains.
    - one after the other, after another, after another....With a couple of quad trails thrown in :clap

You will have rarely done so few miles, in such a hard working day, as you will while Touring the Cascade Discovery Route.
At first gas stop, a bit over 100 miles, most riders are beat tired after the 6+/- hours it took to get there.
Their face-cheeks hurt from massive, all-day-long, shit-eating grins,
Their butt-cheeks hurt from the beating their made-for-hiway seat has given them.
Their legs ache from suspending their bodies over the bumps, rocks, water-bars, and erosion ruts.
The Cascade Discovery Route is Big Bike friendly, if you're comfortable powering 500+ pounds on really crappy roads.
.....and yet, this Route is plenty thumper rugged enough to challenge anyone on the 200cc-650cc bikes :p3rry

The Cascade Discovery Route's Main Goals are, in specific order:
    1) Touch as little pavement as possible for almost 400 miles
    2) Ride the Oldest, Most Historic and Rustic Roads in Oregon
    3) VERY Quick in & out for Gas, Food and drink in Small Towns Only
    4) Ride as many Oregon Wilderness Area's "Border Roads" as possible
    5) To make this Tour a BackCountry Experience that you will never forget

    MOST IMPORTANTLY
......This Cascades Discovery Route Tour is a BACKCOUNTRY ADVENTURE :norton
If you really need Ramada at night and Starbucks in the morning, this Tour is not really designed for you.
This Tour will Camp, in TRUE ADV Style. We're gonna Guerilla Camp. Stealth Camp, Nowhere Camp. REAL ADVrider Camp.
Officially known to the Forest Circus as "Dispersed Camping".
We'll still have a few surprising luxuries,...you'll be AMAZED at what I can pack on a 990 Adventure :evil

    Campfires and a Hot-Cooked Meal,
Cocktails on ice, Cold Beer, (ALL garbage is always packed out)
Midnight Smoked Brats cooked slowly over the night's coals...
Natural Springs, Creeks and Rivers. Sunsets over Mountains and Lakes. Sunrises over Wildflower-Filled Meadows.
Twinkling Stars with no light pollution.....But, most importantly.....Absolute Quiet with no noise pollution.

If you like THESE ^^^ things,
...then you've come to the right place.

Ride Oregon First: Cascade Discovery Route

My One and Two-Day Tours will take us in big, fun, dirty loops, and lead us back to Hood River.
Hood River, Wasco, and Clackamas counties offer ENDLESS, sweet, Dual Sport Motorcycling Bliss.
...Come share it with me !!

All Tours are customizeable and on-the-fly-flexible.
    Some riders are faster.
    ...Some riders are slower.
Sometimes bikes break down,.... sometimes riders break down.
We will camp when it's time to camp, based on my riders and their desires.
We are never tied to a place to stay the night,
and I know ALL Of the best dispersed campspots along the way.

I am offering only Ride Oregon First Tours at this time,
I will not offer Cascade Discovery Route Tracks at this time, to keep these Tours' tracks exclusive.

    THANKS, Guys !! :norton
    Thanks for noticing!

On our way to the KTM Rally this last September,
you guys got to experience the first 100 miles of the Cascade Discovery Route,
...before we shed off to camp with Jimmy Lewis.

    So,,......as two big bike guys,
    ...whadja think of the ROUTE???

Boring?, Exciting?, too easy, too hard?
    A good day's work?

No problem at all on the big bike. The challenge for me was trying to keep up with a bunch of KTM crazy folks whipped into a frenzy thinking about meeting up with Jimmy Lewis at the end of the day :clap I was spent after that first day and ready to enjoy some camp time. But was ready to go after a good meal at camp and a good nights sleep.

But it was worth every moment as it took me past my comfort level just that little bit and made me a better rider.

    Awesome route!!

Oregon is just a plane ride away,
And several local places will rent you a good dual sport.....

It's a bit rainy in Oregon, now....
But I wanted y'all to start thinking about Summer :clap

It gets a bit wet in some places, even fairly late in the year.....
....this was late July, 2012, on old Peavine Rd near Summit Lake

but the majority of the Route usually looks more like this,
...from the original Skyline Rd just South of Olallie Lake:

    Well,
at this early stage of the Winter,....Just tell me WHEN !!!
    ....'cause I'm READY!!

I have several great drier/lower elevation alternate routes for early season riders,
....if the snow keeps us off the higher passes :deal
East of the Warm Springs Reservation for the early Spring
West of the Reservation for the Summer.

    Motivational....Hmm??
Here's some pics of that oldest section of the 1850's Santiam Wagon Road I tried so hard to find a route through
....that day I called you from the North edge of the Mt Washington Wilderness....
(btw, the tour abandons this ancient route :lol3)

Research and development took a looong time to find the good stuff, stuff that went through to more fun.
Sometimes I spent too many hours working on a route that I really wanted to through,....but really doesn't.

it sure was great having you and Jeff with us for that ride,
and the on-site warranty repairs?? Priceless !!

For those ADVRiders that don't know these two guys....
Craig is CJ Racer, the dude behind CJDesigns LLC.
Jeff is his buddy that rode to Oregon from Wisconsin with him on the way to the KTM Rally.

The night before a long two-day ride, I was just returning from doing the WABDR, when we meet them in the Forest!
... Craig tells me he has the spare parts to fix my Recluse EXP (packed on his bike!!) I had purchased from him last February. And while I try to reinstall my rear subframe (welded back together after broken), Craig proceeds to actually do the warranty repairs for me, while his buddy Jeff helps me with my subframe and rack, and bleeds my brakes for me!!

Beyond the call of duty, I tell ya!!
If any of you need 950/990 parts, email Craig at his sig-line address, he'll set you up with the best products, and most importantly, the best advice you can get about these bikes.

Then there's Brian, at Atomic Moto.
At one point, about a half mile past those pictures, I got myself stuck.
At the edge of Wilderness, without any more water, and at 5pm.
Well, what do I do now??

I have Brian's phone #, and I call with limited reception,
and he offers to come and help, even though he is still a couple of hours away.
I didn't know what else to do, but within the next hour, I got myself out,
and likely fried that Rekluse in the process.
When I call him back, he was already halfway out to get me.
Then, next time I see him, he gives me some free "Hammer" electrolyte products,
to give me some energy next time that happens.

Above the call of duty, again.
You all need to buy from Atomic Moto. You'll get personal advice if you need it,
    just email Brian and ask.

Where else do you get that level of personal service from a Vendor, except those that are part of ADV?
    ADVers are the BEST!!

It'll be OK you won't need 'em on the Cascade Discovery Route, we won't see much traffic....:deal

You saw the part where I abandoned this section, right?
But not until I found a maybe 150 year old piece of a steel wagon wheel on this ancient-by-american-standards Santiam Wagon Rd.....

Thanks for coming!!! VERY glad you enjoyed it!! :clap
Did you enjoy feeling like a Guinea Pig ?? :lol3

Oh yeah, and thanks for helping me get my bike off of that Wilderness Tree :D

Another Picture from another ancient road. This is an abandoned section of Grasshopper Rd.
While it was still quite the obstacle course, this one was FUN!!
Do you remember losing that pannier here, Cyclops Motorsport??

I was fortunate enough to ride this with AJ last august. Man can that fugger ride. apparently no one explained to him that its not a MX bike. :smooch
It never ceased to amaze me just how much stuff fits on a 990. Is it really camping when you have ice in your cocktails every night? and the grub was delicious. No freeze dried meals for that guy, we were eating fajitas for dinner!

I truly hope I have the chance to spend a few days on the trail with AJ again this year!

some pics from our ride in august:

AJ's well equipped orange crush. here you can just spy the top of the cooler...

yes, bike to occasionally break down on the trail. notice the blinker? :amazon
    [IMG]

looks like three cans and a box. and it was damn tasty! :pot
    [IMG]
    that guy is always smiling!

this is my kind of road

Thanks again AJ for showing us a great time!

Maybe "troad" is a better description: trail + road
Actually, the roadBED was in good shape, just a bit overgrown and some treefall.
    Makes for good stories :deal

    Thanks for the kind words!!
and thanks even more for enjoying your ride :deal
Very glad to help you and TJ start out your tour of Oregon:freaky

I just can't let go of what a fun week that was!!
    Is it June, yet?
