Thinking about taking a trip down to WV this summer and am looking for advice on where go and where to stay (camping).

I've been through the New River Gorge area on my way down south, but never stayed in that area. Looks very nice and I'm sure there's some great riding and I thought I saw quite a few signs for campgrounds.

Any advice would be greatfully appreciated. Thanks.

Head over to the Southeast regional thread and search there. Pretty much anywhere and everywhere in WV is a fabulous ride. A long trip down 219 with some side trips is a good option, just bring a WV Delorme Gazetteer and look for the curvy roads. Seneca Rocks, Blackwater Falls, Canaan Valley, Davis/Thomas area (stop at Purple Fiddle and Hellbenders Burittos). Rt 20 is a great road too, stop by Rella's for super tasty home cooking. A route that includes Rt 50 and Rt 33, or 250 over to VA is another great option. Have fun.

West Virginia is an awesome riding state. So many fantastic roads. Just work out a route that appeals to you, then Google nearby camping options. They're fairly plentiful, but can be very out of the way, which can make them a little tricky to find.

Fantastic state for visiting. State parks are great, check their website, has a few suggestions for places to visit.
Caves in WV fun to visit, ski resorts offer cheap summer accomodations, several bicycling hostels along the trails.
I've spent some nights at the rafting co outposts. Beware Hwy 19 speed traps,.

Radio astronomy site open for visitors, good riding region. Get off the interstate, too many good roads to stay on the slab. Good choice for a riding vacation on a budget.

If you venture off into real coal country -Hatfield McCoy territory- be careful of the locals. That advice is from a not so good personal experience and from more than several locals who live and work in the more civilized part of WV.

WV16 is one of the best road i have ever ridden, it comes out of Welch WV and goes all the way to NC

    Try this for ideas:

    www.RidingWV.com

Hope it helps. I just started the site last year and invite readers to submit ride reports. Some sections are still empty, but it's growing. Getting about 1,500 hits/month now.

    Have a safe ride.

I'm just a half hour from the WV border and anywhere on the east side has fantastic riding. I'll add Rt. 150 (Highlands Scenic Highway) between Rt. 219 and 39/55.

Sadly I'll agree with Advntr. There are some bars where you could be sitting minding your own business, and someone would take exception to that.

Kayaking in the Wild of West Virginia

If you are looking for a way to get out in nature and explore some of the wilds of West Virginia, then kayaking may be the answer. West Virginia offers the opportunity to explore and enjoy the outdoors as it was a hundred years ago.

Year-Round Haunted Houses in West Virginia

The cozy town of Harpers Ferry turned chilly when John Wilkes Booth breezed into town, womanizing and watching a famous hanging years before he killed President Lincoln. Stories such as this contribute to West Virginia's haunted history.

Fishing Tournaments for Bass Nearest to the Wheeling, West Virginia Area

Located on the banks of the scenic Ohio River, the sports-conscious city of Wheeling, West Virginia offers a variety of outdoor activities. Outdoor enthusiasts who aspire to bass fish will find several bass tournaments within a couple of hours of Wheeling.

Indoor Swimming in Wheeling, West Virginia

The West Virginia town of Wheeling lies along the bank of the Ohio River and is known for its historic sites, casino and abundant recreational opportunities. However, below-freezing temperatures during the winter mean many of the outdoor parks and pools are closed for months.

Yes to all of the above. I live east of Toronto and WV is my go-to state for great riding. I have ridden ALOT of the state, I forget how many times I have been down. Even the road to get to Seneca Shadows campground is killer. The sites are cheap and you wake up to the great view of Seneca Rocks.

Open a WV map, close your eyes and put your finger down, you can't go far wrong, yes ,it's that good. New River Gorge is touristy and expensive. Rt 16 from top to bottom kills, especially from Marion to Tazewell....be careful!!!
