How many helmets do we really need (want)?

Just got a sweet Bell Star carbon. Got a great EBay deal on a Nexx Carbon. Now looking for a Neotec. Anybody else have my problem? I need a 12 step program. Or maybe I need 12 helmets.

I ride 5-7 days a week so I like to let my helmet breath for a day or two before I wear it again.

3 is enough at this time.

4- trials,off-road, dualsport,street.

I want only one. I have three, two of which I don't use.

I'd say 3 - I have one modular for touring and commuting and one solid full-face for more "spirited" riding where I want the extra protection. I'd like to get a dirt helmet too since I'm just starting to ride dirt. Oh, and one or two extra for pillions... of each type?

The way I see it, you really need at least 8:
One full face with a peak and visor for DSing and Supermoto.
One full face with a peak and no visor for Enduro (to save the faff and, over time, loosening of the mounts of using the DS one with the visor removed).
One full face, without a peak for sportsbikes.
One open face with a peak for trials.
One open face without a peak, for classic bikes and cruisers.
One full face to cover in Go Pro mounts.
One beater you can stuff in hard panniers and not worry about scuffs
One old one that was in a crash and looks battered, that is a garage ornament/reminder not to crash.

Nine if your other half has a significantly different size head and can't fit any of your 'spares'.

I have two at the moment. A full dirt helmet, and a full-face. I am looking at the MSR Discovery helmet for DS riding. Want more though.

I have four. One full face, one modular, one DS, and one dirt helmet. And one really old full face that I keep for a spare. I should throw that one away.

One. Not counting the two that are too old/too crashed to wear them myself.

I only have one helmet.

6...but 2 i don't like and hardly ever wear.
1 is a cheap m2 that i use when i teach(msf)
it is an open face and easier to put on and off
while wearing sunglasses.

Oh yeah. I've got 5 in the garage at the moment. I'm gonna need helmet detox soon. If I didn't have the worlds largest melon I'd have more......
