You'll need permission (fill in a form & pay a road toll) from Muzzle Station for the Kaikoura end. Ride across river likely required as Nordie sez. They might be able to advise on who you ask for the Kekerengu end, I have heard that getting permission for that section can be problematic. WAMS shows a paper road all the way up there, dunno how closely it matches the actual track though.

    Cheers
    Clint

Cheers Clint, I have found contact numbers for the Kekerengu end, so will make enquiries.

Any of you Nelson boys keen to come over the hill to Havelock on Sunday, meet up at the Vintage Motox, 3km past Havelock on the state hiway, watch some of the racing, talk shit and go for a ride and drink. Us Marlborough boys will be at the racing around 10.30/11.00

Woo hoo! Just got the 640 on the road again. Anyone going over the Maungatapu to get to the VMX? I have to be in Nelson for noon so I can't get to the VMX, but I'm keen for a strop over the Maungatapu and back. Sharleen will come with me.

Well I think you are right, Padmei: the Nelson side of the Maungatapu is pretty rough due to the fallen trees and fresh erosion ditches.

It's funny the bad side of the Maungatapu is the side that's closed off to traffic to keep it in good condition...

Looks like they graded part of the way on either side then decided they'd had enough & buggered off. Bloody lovely on the other side looking down to the river aye.
WW I thought you would have known better than to mtb across it :D.

If Suzuki upgraded/re-released them I would be very tempted to get another. I don't miss the constant spanering :huh
