Dual Sporting--Sea to sea

In the first post I had left Myrtle Beach and headed west to Augusta--as the video showed the riding was interesting but not challenging--mostly the occassional dirt or gravel road.
Out of Augusta the route takes you north back into South Carolina and then west into Georgia. This part was going well with mixed dirt\gravel and pavement. I was riding along a paved section when out of the corner of my eye there is a rather large brown wing span--like 3 plus feet. Then bang on my right leg---some local Hawk had decided I looked like a good meal! He was a bit worse for the wear but survived and I left him sitting on a 3 foot high stump recovering from a good bell ringing

On into North Georgia and some great dual sport riding. Compares well to anything in the Jemez and some great very demanding paved sections that are much like the Dragon--129. Miles and miles of this what a great day!

On to Deal's Gap 129--hate to leave North Georgia



Then cut by the Smokies and across the Parkway into Knoxville and on up to Jellico.




Then mind numbing BORING riding on the TAT in Tennessee. Some have said this part of the TAT should be bypassed--I fully concur. Jellico to South of Nashville is nothing but a never ending series of left and right turns thru farm country mostly on paved roads.
Promises Promises never delivered


There is the occassional dirt or gravel section but nothing of note. In fact I didn't even use my camera or video as best as I recall--well I did get a picture of a turtle for SloJoe!

Let's hope western Tenn and into MS and AR gets better.....

I will make copies of the as ridden track from Myrtle Beach to Jellico available for anyone who asks--just don't ask yet!

Are there any stats on who is the oldest guy to complete the TAT? You are probably in the running.

Great report Sy, I guess the hawk thought your leg was lunch, good job on it's rescue and release.

How's the humidity treating you, I sure don't miss July weather in the east.

Akasy, every TAT RR seems to include a pic of a bike lying down in the middle of some river

If you can't avoid the dreaded <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comffice:smarttags" /><st1:State w:st="on"><st1lace w:st="on">Mississippi</st1lace></st1:State> baptism, at least have the decency to get it on video.

Tenn is done--whew--600 miles of turns and pavement--at 97 degrees and 80% humidity!
No RF I didn't fall in the river and yes Atomic I've got to replace the tires! That MT43 is a good tire but the pavement takes it toll--me thinks it might make 2000 miles. Front MT21 has a few days left in it--at least I hope so.

Met an ADV rider doing the TAT today--screen name Pomo from West Virigina. Pulled up did the hi how are you then he says--"This is boring!" We were south and west of Nashville somewhere--he tells me he can't even find anything to take a picture of and WV has more to offer--had to agree--this track in Tenn is mind numbing and I don't have much mind left so numbing it is not good!

I did divert to Nashville for a show and a tour. Got to tour Barbara Mandrell's old home--at 26000 sq feet.




Then off to the Grand Ole Opry--GOO


Hey it was a long way to the stage---

Then off back to the track and the rest of Tenn--Slojoe, had a turtle save this AM--poor guy was upside down in the middle of the road.


Must have seen 100 of these if I saw one--but if you stop they disappear before you can get the camera out!


There must be a rule in the south that you have to do burn outs on back roads--these are everywhere! Maybe that is why all of Tenn is PAVED!


And the required yes it is still running picture.

Tomorrow all of Arkansas sure hope the riding is better!

Arkansas gets a B+ for roads and routing--maybe only because Tenn was so boring

I thought I saw a line here but couldn't decide--I'm sure Dwrec would see it


So I took the bridge



Arkansas was great and even graded the roads for me--so nice having piles of gravel and dirt to ride on


Then there was this guy buzzing around--then he came right across the road over me and yep--I'm bug free


This one will not be going anywhere for a while


Some mild sand makes for a feeling of home.....


Muggy here andHOT--105 today in a couple of towns--heat wave the worse since the 1930's--just my luck
