on fuel economy.

Any comments on the below average fuel consumption figures?

GS hex 5,4 l/100km = 43 mpg (my own experience, but "old" model, 2005)
GS hex ADV 6,0 l/100km = 39 mpg
GS wet 5,2 l/100km = 45 mpg (= 4 % improvement. Has anyone heard an actual figure mentioned?)
GS wet ADV 5,6 l/100km = 42 mpg (hoping to get a greater improvement over the current model (7 %), just speculating that the design could be slimmer )

Hexhead GS fuel range 333 km (207 mi) (Calculation: 18 litres / 5,4 l/100km (with nominal 2 litres reserve when filling up))
Wethead fuel range 346 km (215 mi) (Calculation: 18 litres / 5,2 l/100km (with nominal 2 litres reserve when filling up))

Hexhead ADV fuel range 517 km (321 mi) (Calculation: 31 litres / 6,0 l/100km (with nominal 2 litres reserve when filling up))
Wethead ADV nominal tank size for the same range: 31 litres (Calculation: 517 km x 5,6 litres/100km plus 2 litres reserve)

Did I say it's all just speculation...

So I'm saying that the Wethead ADV could well come with a 30 litres fuel tank instead of 33 litres.

BMW USA is claiming a 6% improvement in gas mileage in their launch materials provided to dealers.

For cars and bike it is relatively good here. We get german prices, but have higher vat. Some annual taxes and inscription fees. We are however screwed big time on income tax wwhich goes up to 53% in my case. Fuel prices aren't that far away from yours.
But I shouldn't complain since i can afford a new gs next to my car.

Just looked it up. Got a 3% discount on the stickerprice and 2 years additional Guarantee thrown In the deal. But didn't need to negotiate that. Getting more out of It seemed Impossible.

I hope these prices are accurate.

Now the hard part, for me anyway...do I buy a 2013 Multistrada S Touring and get it now, or the new GS W/C and have to wait?

I just wonder if you can get them in black like the Adventure wheels. I bought the adv wheels for my 2009GS and then sold the original plain aluminum color set. It would be nice to not have to do that again to get the wheels I want...

I haven't seen any black spoke rims for the 2013, that could possibly a feature of the ADV-LC next year?

The production date isn't what's important. The MY in on the paperwork and this determines the spec.

The point here is that the mfgs need some system to group together bikes of common spec. I suppose the bike mfgs could do like software and we would be talking about whether you have a R1200GS V7.24 or something, but since the mfgs make changes on more/less an annual basis, MY is a convenient system of grouping and has the added benefit of giving a rough idea of how old the bike is when say you have a 2007 MY R1200GS. Do you have a better one? I don't think having mfgs just make running changes to spec whenever they please is a good one.

Honda was one of the last bastions of not using MY's back in the 1970's. Before about 1974, their bikes typically has a K designation after the model, so you'd have a CB750K0, K1, etc. To this day, this is a huge source of confusion because someone will say they have a 1972 CB750, but the year could be the production date, the date it was sold, the date it was titled, etc. Honda went with the MY convention because it is more/less universally used in the vehicle world. It isn't perfect and mfgs occasionally make running mid-MY changes (e.g., the KTM 2005.5 950s) but overall it is a good system and works pretty well.

Well I can tell you "my" GS was a model you cannot name because it existed for less than one year (maybe 6 months).

Alright, enough....

OK then... When am I gonna see new LCGSs on the road... Cannot wait to leave them behind disappearing in rear view mirrors... :)
