I think it's the use of mortar/dirt between the logs instead of a solid wooden wall....

What they said, Hand hewed square with interlocking, flush cut corners and then dirt or mortar chinking packed in the joints.

Round logs are considered Scandinavian style, and traditionally would have used moss for chinking.
