Dealer stated: Faulty fuel pump.

I am dead positive it was the pump. I just left the tarmac and had stopped for a moment, turning the bike off. Tried to get it started again and zippo. I disconnected the fuel line and turned the bike over, and no fuel was being pumped through the line.

13500 miles on an 07 990- not a single problem.

I've run it pretty low a few times, I usually run it down to the last ½ gallon. FWIW I make a point of filling up with Chevron.

Yep i did ask and he said the psi of the unit was running too low .
it's only now after reading some post on this site latley i realise there might be some fauty pumps out there thats what im trying to find out to see if im just the unlucky bastard or if there's a common thread to it all.

STATS SO FAR, 4 bikes out of the 21 that have put their hand up have had a fuel pump issue HANG ON NEW STATS COMING IN, ................yes i am bored

However, for the information of all concerned, please note that disconnecting the fuel line and turning the bike over is not the right test to check the healthiness of the fuel pump.

The quick disconnector is not so simple as you are expecting. There is a valve in there which opens only when the male & female sides of the disconnector have "mated". Once the disconnector is taken apart, the valve closes and fuel does not flow anymore into either sides.

If you look inside the disconnector, you will find a white colored valve. Now try to blow into this and you wont be able to. If you press the white colored valve and then blow, air will pass thru.

I found this when i dismantled the fuel pump on my 990 yesterday.

Good information to know. Thanks. So, even though my test was not valid, the dealer still confirmed my problem and the new pump set me on my way... until recently.

07 I got a fuel pump? 11K.

I finally replaced my fuel pump at 31,000 miles (it is a 2007 990 Adv)

I started having an issue at 20k. When the fuel was low (under 1 gal left) and only under hard braking or acceration the bike would stall. I still have no idea why. I delt with it for a while and tried to keep the tanks fuller.

At about 25,000 miles I filled up one day and 15 minutes later I noticed the bike not running quite right. I did a couple hard accerations and under a heavy load the bike just fell on its face. The problem got worse and worse, 40 minutes later I could just keep up with traffic.

I made it home and pulled the pump. The filters were brown, but did not seem to have any restriction. Teed in a fuel pressure gauge to confim the problem.

The bike ran perfect and the stalling problem under braking went away!

I ran the bike for 4000 miles with the gauge and never had a problem. I removed the gauge and everything was fine for the next 1000 miles. Still haven't figured that out.

At about 30,000 miles I was out on a trip and the bike started acting up out of nowhere. Same problem, idled fine but faltered under a load. The problem came and went, but it seemed to be heat related, when I put fresh gas in it seemed to do better. Made it home and ordered a fuel pump assembly. Only 1 ride on the new pump but so far so good.

I still don't know if it was just a filter problem or a pump problem. I did have 30,000 miles including 10,000 in Mexico. It was weird how intermittent the problem was. I decided to replace the pump, even if it was just the filters, I have put the pump through a lot of abuse and I don't want to get stuck.

2007 990 Adventure @ 19,000 miles. Lots of dirt. Mexico. No problem so far.

Mine went at 2,500 miles, Starting running with low power for about 10 miles, then fell on its face and took the main fuse with it. Had to be towed out of the woods by a 4-wheeler. Hope this new one lasts little longer than that.

First big trip on my 07 Duke purchased in January. 2,485 miles and the bike died. My dealer suggested cleaning the tea bag filter, but no joy. After pulling the pump motor out we determined it was seized. KTM of Grand Junction swapped me mine for the one in their demo so I could get home. I can't thank them enough.

'08 990 with 16,000 miles, stock fuel pump still going strong.
