The battery on my 04 1150 GS has given up the ghost.

I want to get a replacement for it and in 30 minutes of research I'm more bewildered than I could have thought. It was opening up a closet jammed packed, and it all just avalanched out.

Gel or dry, amps matter, they don't matter, sealed, open... I just want the right batter for my bike so I can ride. Why can't it be that easy? (rhetorical question)

I turn to you, my brothers and sisters of the two wheel joy, can you recommend a decent battery?

The only extra I run are running lights. Other than that, it's pretty much stock.

Sealed AGM... Odyssey is my choice.

Odyssey PC680 is my choice too.

Be prepared to alter the connections.
No big deal, it's just not plug&play.

If the price of an Odyssey makes your eyes water, try a Deka.

Have you tried wal-mart? Its not just for KLR's! I've bought several batteries for motos there, including for BMWs. Maybe they will only last 4 years instead of 5, but they cost half as much!

Deka does offer batteries with blemished cases for less $$.

I noticed the Odyssey PC680-P doesn't have terminal connectors. Is that something I can pick up in a hardware store, or is there a kit, or what?
I suppose I could just use my nail gun.:eek1

I read in the BMW owners manual that the original battery is 19 AH and the Odyssey is 16. Would that make much of a difference?


I did check Walmart, but didn't see any bike batteries listed.

I ran an Extreme Magna AGM (available at Autozone, charged, and in stock) on my Beemer. On my KLR, I just bought a Scorpion AGM (1/2 the cost, and even less than conventional, shipped USPS to my door) that I only rode with once so far. But, the KLR is a kick start. :)

I used to think YUASA but the one I put in my GSA after the OEM battery has sucked... the OEM would last months while not on a charger,,, but the YUASA dies after 7 or 8 days. If I replace it it will be with a Shorai.

It may come with the "L" adapters, I bought one last year and they were in the box.

Thanks for the tip. That's just what I'm looking for and in fact found it on Amazon where I can get it faster, but... the L connectors will take almost a week to ship. Isnt' that how it always goes?

I've called some local auto parts stores and they don't have anything like that. Called some local motorcycle stores. Same story.
Just a suggestion for those stores; fewer stickers of flaming skulls and more useful things. Just throw'n it out there.

These L brackets look like just metal L's. Anyone know what they'd be made of? Maybe I can pick up something from the local hardware store and make them myself.

There's a thread around here somewhere about the clever solutions people have come up with for connecting to the terminals.

Seriously, you should find the thread with all the other solutions.
If your gas tank is metal, you will need to make certain there can never be a (+) to tank short.

IIRC the bolts are M6 x 1.0
