Ride what you brought
Quote:
For those of us that only own one bike it is not an option to "choose" what to ride on a trail. If you ride down instead of truck a small bike, you ride what you have and in many cases have your gear along, especially if you are just passing through. The spirit of adventure is what this site is all about and who says that it isn't "fun" to ride a larger, heavier bike on trails. It is more work and more challenging I am sure, but still fun. If I had a choice I would love to ride a nice light bike on the trails, but not at the cost of having to travel by truck so that I can.

Well said & well taken & only my WRR can contradict what you have said. My 250 rarely if ever is on my trailer. KLR one of the best all around bikes ever made but there are now a few other options out there.

You asume that a heavy loaded bike isn't fun. Sometimes having the wrong tool for a job is what makes it fun.

Many would actually say it's the DR650 not the KLR, but these days the Husky TR650 has taken over the best bang for the buck award.

For me, the choice of the KLR seemed right at the time. I had high hopes of long distance travel, as well as off road performance. The KLR 2008+ is a remarkably well balanced bike, and it performs amazingly off road. So I have no complaints for what it is.
Sadly everytime I try to go for a long ride (more than about four hours one way) my wife insists that I take our jeep and put the bike on the trailer, or toss it up in the back of the truck and go that way. (this could be because I have tried numerous trips in mid winter, and we lived in Utah, and now Idaho.) My wife has also decided she really enjoys riding with me, so, the KLR will go up for sale soon, and we plan to pick up a goldwing for the two of us, and a more dirt oriented bike with a higher frame, and lighter bike overall for me. Ah such is life. I can still adventure on a goldwing right? I do not have to go hang out with all of the seventy year olds do I? I am too young for that! Seriously though, I love the KLR, it is a great bike. And not to turn this ride report into a debate, but I have noticed a conspicuous lack of KLR's in the "ADV bike comparison" videos available online. I plan to keep the KLR for about a year before I sell it. It is a great bike after all! OH and I DO recommend a skid plate for whatever bike you pick up! Mine has so many massive gouges and scratches under it now that I took it to Moab a few times, and I am not afraid to ride it on the good trails! Five Miles of Hell anyone? :) (nah, not really)

Moab can be such a laugh.
I think we have all read stories on here wherein the individual writes about how he was just laughing in his helmet. __________________ Was the Nitrous plumbed directly into the helmet? ![]() China bike accessory? Brave man & good vid. |
