17 inch front wheel on KTM 1190 Adventure

Anyone know if a 17 inch front wheel would work on the 1190 Adventure?

Im confused why do you wish to place a 17inch front wheel on the ADV.
It works fine just as it is, this bike rails around corners..

I had the opposite thought when i was looking at a new 1190 with the 19" front. I have an smt with 17". I will get around to measuring and comparing parts snd will post results. I go offroad with my smt with tkc80s but would love to just throw a spoked tubless 19" on when i do!

Besides the requisite 10 pages of banter about personal values, choices, preferences, etc.; a 17" wheel fits and works with the MSC and ABS. KTM do not support it, but it works with the bike and still plays nice with the electronic hardware/software.

That is what I gleaned with google translate... I no speak the Deutsch either.

Choices for sticky 19" rubber is non-existant. If you want to really rail, 17" is a must to get tires that are up to task.

But with the weight you will wear through them like butter. One rear Dunlop Q2 on my SMT lasted about 800 miles before a stone punctured it from being too thin.

I'd stick with the Conti's on the 19's. If you can outride them then you may have bought the wrong bike.

And I say that with extreme prejudice as I hate the stock Conti's. They grip okay but the feeling is greasy as hell. And that is what I found with the road Attack's and not even the Trail Attack's.

The only issue they had after the change to 17'' was the speedometer.

As KTM does not approve the change, they wouldn't help with a software update for the speedo or instructions on how to change the wheelsize. It appears that you can't simply change the wheel size in the ECU like on previous models.

Seeing what KTM did to the speedo on 2013 Models who did the MSC upgrade, it's may be better that KTM keeps their fingers off the speedo paramters :huh

The plan of the germans is to use a converter to adapt the speed.

Yeah the speedo part is what doesn't make sense to me. How can the MSC still function when going from a 21" wheel to 17" wheel and not being told anything different? The skeptic in me thinks the ABS, etc may not throw any alarms and may still "function" but it is no longer working ideally... and stops will be like the Multistrada where it takes ~50% longer to stop with it on. Since I can't speak German it would be nice for clarification on exactly how well it functions. Wouldn't be a deal breaker to me, I would expect it not to work, but I was scratching my head as to how the bike thinks it has a 21" front wheel, but is actually running a 17" and everything works flawlessly.

What happened to the speedo of those who upgraded MSC?

Seriously a 500lb bike is not too heavy for sporty rubber. Lots of bikes out there significantly heavier than 1190ADV do just fine (K1300, ZX14, etc). Besides the 17" will quicken the handling and give much better front end feel.

I love my RC8R but it isn't ideal for tight mtn roads with crappy pavement, exploring where the heck 'that' road goes, or for taking a passenger... what I would love is an 1190 SMT. The 1190ADV is perfect for someone conflicted between a MTS and GS... For what I want to use the bike for the MTS is ideal, but for many personal reasons I would rather SMTerize the 1190ADV.
