Anyone else get a recent surprise in the mail regarding renewal notices for bikes? I'm with TD and my 07' ST1300 has gone up almost $200/year. I'm now at $1008/year. WTF. No claims....bike is a year older....I'm now 50. Looks like the online quotes from others have gone up as well (did some quick shopping). Suggestions?:eek1:eek1:eek1
Tell them the value of your bike is no long what you purchased it at. I bet if you call TD, they still have your bike valued at the original price when you joined TD.
Yep. I got the same letter in the mail a couple days ago. My insurance went up $250 or something for no reason. Fucking dicks. Oh Canada.
Had the same thing happen to me last year with the '97 ST1100, and no accidents, claim or tickets. Even TD Meloche (SP) was less than TD Home and Auto. BUT the deal I got was with Allstate. Go figure. We had our house insurance with them for years. They were even cheaper than TD before the increase. Then this year I added the cars and the price dropped further. So shop around fore sure. Internet quotes are the start, you will have to follow up by phone. Good luck.
I am with them too and the insurance papers just came in the mail. Will have to ask the wife she pays for my insurance , nice to have a sugar momma . But any money I can save her just means more money she can spend on me . NOT Fixed
Yes, TD are a bunch of pricks. I was paying $1000 last year with Intact. When the policy was coming up to renewal they wanted $1200. So i switched to TD for $1150. They just sent my renewal in for $1400. I have not had a claim since 1986. We are paying for no fault insurance. Its the only place on the planet that has it in a non state run industry. Its absolutely insane considering we have free medical. My insurance in the states would be about $350 a year all in. Insurance companies are getting rich and the people that have at fault accidents are not paying the fare share. Im pissed off. Cheera
$569 for my 2007 990 KTM - I don't have any extra coverage, just the bare minimum to put it on the road. I just got the notification yesterday. It is with TD Meloche, and I have my house and vehicle with them too in a package deal.... I feel I am getting absolutely ripped off however with my house insurance rates, but my truck I feel is reasonable. So all in all I am happy with TD Meloche... Happy enough to keep me as a customer. I suppose the true test though is how they come through in case of a claim - I have never had a claim, ticket, water damage in my house, or the like ever. But I understand people's concern and worry. Gas should still be reasonably cheaper for this summer's adventures.
They did the exact same thing to snowmobilers about 10 years ago... everybody jumped ship from their insurance companies to the "cheaper" TD (Primmum, at the time). After 2 years, TD hiked the prices substantially to make them at par with the premiums people were paying elsewhere.
I got mine from TD about same day. mine went up about 2-300 for 2 bikes. I did get and email from an online quote place and Travelers Canada quoted over 6000. Others were in the 4000 range. mine is 2000 for both. Pricy yes but i have max coverage on my bikes.
My TD Primmum went up $50 for this year. On 4 bikes. That's $12.50 per bike. Maybe the answer is to expand the stable
You are partially right. Insurance in Ontario is, for the most part, run by the province, and the reason our rates are so high compared to the states is because of the mandatory coverages. You are 100% correct about medical coverage. It's the highest component of our insurance, yet we've already paid for it with our taxes. I don't know why we allow the government to use the insurance industry to subsidize the health care system, but we shouldn't.
Does anyone have their bikes insured under their wife who also has a motorcycle license? I know vehicles are less for the woman folk in my age category. So with the Mrs getting her M1 and M2 this year i am thinking i should look at sliding the bike into her name to have it insured? Anyone try this yet? She will be starting to ride a bit this year, sign her up for the gear up program and get her on the streets
You are "backing talkwards" gumby. Unless she has had insurance for a bike under her own name before the first year will be a killer. D's first year with a bike put insurance on the KLR up to $900 from $450 and that was the bike in my name and her as occasional. If she had insured as owner in her own name with a M1 it would have been over $1500. If you register them under her name, you would be occasional and I think the newbie rate would apply to both of you. If your record is clean you are best to insure under your name for a year or 2 with her as an occasional driver. That will get her name linked to a bike until she has a year with her full M licence. Her insurance should be better after that. As far as insurance goes I have my best deal through TD insurance, have not got my renewal for this year yet but with rates going up in every province i am expecting that they will go up. Too many squibs out there getting a licence and then hi siding a crotch rocket in their wife beater and flip flops and showing off to some teeny bopper, or some goatee stroking old fart who has never ridden before but in a man-opause moment decides to live out his "freedom" pulling out of Starbucks on his "ride" and t-boning grandma heading our to get some depends in the ford tempo..
This is hilarious. The best i can find for the KLR right now is through gillons, all my other bikes were always through TD The thing that made me wonder about the wife thing is that at 30 bike rates plummet, and with me having a couple years to go, and being with a older lady i was wondering what might come out of it Probably best to keep it honest anyways
TD soaked me for another $200 this year too! Currently shopping for something better. Oddly, i work for TD and i'm supposed to be getting a discount!
I'm bikeless this year, so I can't contribute to this discussion personally, but the TD Primmum premium for my wife's CRF230L went down a bit this year. I was expecting it to rise simply because it's no longer a two-bike policy. I suspect it's because she's past the 5 yr licensed milestone, though. .
I have my bike and car with TD, but house insurance was crazy priced. I have the house with co-operators, much cheaper.
