THE WORKS PERFORMANCE SHOCK GROUP BUY IS NOW CLOSED. The front page is now edited to reflect that the buy opportunity is now gone. _________________________________________________ Thank you to PapaPete and Jeff for all the work and time put into the deal ~VC
I'm checking out an NX250 this coming weekend, and there's one thing I'm concerned with: the owner says it gets 47mpg. From everything I read previously, that seems really low. Am I totally off in that thinking? If it is problematic, would it most likely be a carb/jetting problem, or am I looking at something more significant? <--- Not wanting to buy a bike needing an engine rebuild right off the bat...
This isn't specific to you, Assfault, ok? this is just in general Geez, please don't think i answered Assfault personally.. ____________________________________________________ This is for all who are in on the shock deal.. Assfault asked a question that is on the tip of the 'berg for all participants in the WP shock buy. but i imagine everyone wants to know this...hurry hurry, .. I'm tired of the 'boing boing' These two guys have really put theirself out there, and although everyone feels like they've made it super easy on them, it's really not so cut and dry... Imagine 15 people all calling you with 7 or eight variables, such as weight, type of riding, terrain, speed, load, other mods to suspension, future mods to consider suspension wise, then, it's relayed to WP who builds it, while trying to spec out each individual shock... engineering each one(it'd be pure luck to assume any one of the 15 want exactly the same setup/weight, etc)to the spec provided. Luckily, we all have the same bike..so that part is already going to be figured in... but from there... Just be patient, those guys don't boss around WP... we should just consider ourselves lucky that we're getting a heck of a deal..thanks to these two guys who have put ALOT into this.. Do you really want a RUSH job on the actual shock construction/setup build, after this herculean effort by such dedicated volunteers? I want mine built like a Ferrari....rejected for flaws in flawlessness, built with matching spec'd parts, using only the finest engineering and compatible subassemblies...by the worlds top builder... who only cares about doing it exactly right, regardless of the length of time it takes to complete the entire job. Thanks guys, and ladies.
I found this interesting... What is that behind the 250 Dominator? Well..welllll.....wellllllll It is the fraternal twin, AX1.... I bet these guys got an XL250 degree too Pictures fxt, I dunno why they were blocked..
Thanks for PP and Jeff For bringing this to fruitition. I did not mean for anybody to get upset on my inquiry about how long it would take to get the shocks here. I was mearly trying to plan for it. I ,like everybody else am extremly busy person and the more info I have to work with the easier my life becomes. I try and work smarter, not harder, lifes to short. Peace Assfault
I wasn't trying to be a smarty, either, ok?.. I was merely trying to get the info out there. I'm sorry if anyone took the last shock post to heart... It was just a vague WP shock reference post, FYI for the group...
I think we all understood both posts. I also think we all understand the hard work that has gone into this and we are just anxious with anticipation. Anyway when it happens it happens.
Hey guys, I put a call in to Works today to ask if they have build/setup sheets. I'm just waiting on a returned call. When I asked them about a group by back a few months ago they said at that time it would take 2 weeks to build the shocks. This may change depending on how busy they are now.
Cool, thanks for the update. Is the build info we sent into Papa Pete set in stone? I don't remember what I sent in but I want to make my shock more offroad oriented then I think I requested. If this causes any issues than do not worry about it, if this is no big deal I would like to change. Did you ever find a TA?
I haven't seen the info that you guys gave PP yet but I'm sure it will be ok. If not well get it straightened out. Yep, picked me up a real nice TA on thursday from another member here.
Has anyone made a note of what kind of gas mileage you guys are getting? I filled up my tank last weekend, all 2.4 gallons of it, planning to put some miles on it over the weekend. All told, after a few hours of mixed highway and curvy road riding, i had 136.8 miles on the trip mileage counter. Just filled up the bike again this afternoon.... and putting in 1.6 gallons brought the fuel level right up to the lid :huh That means I was getting 85 mpg? I'm starting to think either my mileage counter is playing tricks or the gas pump was rigged.... because I wasn't taking it easy on the throttle and was doing high revs at 50-60mph for a bit of the trip, in addition to some city driving. For what it's worth, I weigh 145 lbs and was on paved roads... can it make that much of a difference?
Wow, she looks nice! I've been thinking that after the NX, when I feel the need for a bigger bike... one of those is looking appealing!
So I got paid to ride my Africa twin about 400 miles today on nice twisty back roads in western WI. Had to go to the sister plant and help out on a Kiazen event. That means sit on my back side and give some training. I will be sending Jeff everyones name that made the dead line. I believe we set a payment date of 9-30-08 to keep the deal from dragging on. Now if Jeff wants to allow some who missed the cut off a chance to get their payment in before the cut off for payment, that's up to him! Anyway to stream line the deal for everyone, Jeff is back and will take your payment info. Just because I know everyone wants to be sure they getting what they want, when sending payment info include the following, 1. adv screen name 2. real name. 3. total weight for rider or riders and gear. (Think about this as you don't want a shock that set up just for your weight unless you are never going to defer from that weight.) 4. How you plan to pay. ( note paypal add 3%) credit card or certified bank check prefered. 5. shipping address. 6. MOST IMPORTANT % SREET/DIRT I.E. 50/50 ON/OFF ROAD I blame Jeff's upbringing for being such nice guy and willing to do all this for us with no real gain to his person. If I'm forgetting anything please let me know. THANKS JEFF, YOUR THE MAN!!!!!!!!!
So for now, I'll mostly be riding w/out a load, but I absolutely foresee riding with maybe 15 lbs of camping gear and tools in the future... any opinions as to how you would play this...I'm probably ~170/175 lbs geared up. I'm leaning towards saying 180/185 for the shock. anyway, looking forward to the shock so I quit blowing through my rear end travel. gotta take care of the front next.
You will want to add to the list how you want the shock valved. % of dirt to street-such as 80% dirt 20% street. Thanks to all that made this shockingly good deal a reality!!!!! Super stuff Thanks again Roger
Thanks for a great forum about our bike. This truly is the best one ever. I have already gotten a works shock for my bike about two years ago ,it has been doing pretty well. I am not sure if you guys are having works put your coil on or will you be doing it? The reason I asked is because I put mine on myself and I wish I would have compresed the spring a little more and put the o ring in a higher slot. I have my spring compression rings the whole way down and wish I had a little more. Overall the shock is worlds better than stock. I also put a aftermarket exhaust on my bike, I read through alot of the posts and did not see alot of people doing any exhaust work. I changed mine because I think a weld broke inside the stock muffler and the rattling drove me crazy. I am wandering if I need to rejet now? Also do any of you guys need to let your bike warm up for a long period of time? It seems like mine spits a sputters alot until its warm then it seems to run great. I also get about 82mpg which I think is unbelievable seeing my brothers 2007 klx250 gets only65mpg And it turns the same rpm as my bike. Thanks again for the great forum good luck with the shocks. Chub
Welcome Chub Do you have any pictures of the exhaust system you have put on your bike? On the NX250, the intake valves get out of spec, tighten up, and run a little finicky when the engine is cold. It's a simple valve adjustment, shim under buckets....maybe 3.5 hours from start to finish..
