This circle route is one of my favorites through the Flint Hills of Kansas. It takes you to some of the highest points in Greenwood and Chase County, Southeast of I-35. It is North of Eureka and South SW of Emporia. The route is all gravel and low mantaince roads. No matter what direction you come to get to the circle the ride is wonderful. I hope you like it. If you have ridden it I would like your comments.
How do I open this file. Next time i go to Cassoday I polan on some side tripping and this could worth a look. thank you.
I live near the flinthills in emporia. this is a great ride area. It puts you kinda out in the boonies though. I would suggest riding with someone just in case of a flat, lots of flintrock out there. give me a heads up sometime and maybe we can get together and ride out there. i tried to attach a photo from the area, hope it works. mike
I hope to get back there sometime this spring. You are right, it is the boonies. If you are alone bring water because you may need to walk out if you get a flat or breakdown. In that area you most likely you will not see a truck for days or even weeks. There are no homes along most of the route.
Any DS riders going to Cassoday, KS for the first Sunday ride to Cassoday would enjoy this trip. The circle starts about 10 miles to the east to Cassody.
I found the route you posted. This route looked similar to the one "Mr. Clean" posted some years ago for the Backroads Touring DS riders group. I just drove it in my Grand Cherokee, accompanied by my wife (and two dogs) on Father's Day. It was great. Thanks for posting it. I'll go re-run the route on my bike sometime soon. BTW: Make sure you have tire repair equipment!!! The flint, slate or what ever it is out there will even put holes in a nearly new BFG AT-KO truck tire!! DONT ASK!!!
You KNOW I'm going to ask! Didn't you have little to no cell coverage but eventually someone had to rescue you from an hour away?
